Performance meets efficiency
The flagship Taycan Turbo S can generate up to 560 kW / 761 PS* (horsepower) of overboost power in combination with Launch Control. The Taycan Turbo S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, the same acceleration figures as a 911 GT2 RS. It has a combined range of up to 405 km# when the battery is fully charged.
The Taycan Turbo generates up to 500 kW / 680 PS* (horsepower) of overboost power in combination with Launch Control and completes the zero to 100 km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds with a range of up to 420 km# when the battery is fully charged and a top speed of 260 km/h.
Completing the line-up is the Taycan 4S, which produces up to 390 kW / 530 PS* (horsepower) of power and 640 Nm of torque, performance output coupled with a two-speed transmission and powered by an 79.2 kWh Performance Battery.
The Taycan 4S accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The range is 365 km# when the battery is fully charged.
The Performance Battery Plus package on the Taycan 4S is available as an option. It increases battery capacity to 93.4 kWh resulting in a notable performance increase of up to 420 kW / 571 PS* (horsepower) of power and 650 Nm of torque, as well as an increased combined range of 414 km#.
Charging the Porsche Taycan in Australia
The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts, instead of the usual 400 volts for many electric cars. This enables consistent high performance, reduces the charging time and decreases the weight and installation space of the cabling. It also boasts a maximum peak charging capacity of 270 kW (Performance Battery Plus).
Australian models come with the Mobile Charger Connect as standard, providing intelligent charging functions as well as a Charging Cable (Mode 3) for use at AC public charging stations. For charging at 400 volt charging points, a 150 kW on-board DC-Charger is standard in Australia.
In Australia, owners will have several ways to charge their Taycan, including High Performance Charging, Home Charging and Porsche Destination Charging.
High Performance Charging
Porsche Cars Australia has partnered with Chargefox, Australia’s largest EV charging network operator. Taycan owners will receive a complimentary three year subscription to the Chargefox Ultra-Rapid DC charging network (up to 350 kW), and complimentary charging at selected Chargefox-managed Fast DC charging sites (mostly 50 kW)&.
The complimentary subscription period begins on delivery of the vehicle. Owners can download the Chargefox app via Google Play or Apple App Store.
Home Charging
When purchasing a Taycan in Australia, Porsche Centre sales consultants are able to arrange a Home Check service in order to determine installation requirements for charging at home. For that Porsche Centres have partnered with JET Charge who can deliver expert advice on home charging solutions.
The Home Energy Manager can dynamically optimise the charging process in terms of performance, time and costs. This standard specification item, correctly integrated into your domestic power network, continually monitors the power requirements of your Taycan and the available output of the power supply.
Porsche Destination Charging
When on the road, the Taycan, as well as Porsche plug-in hybrid models, benefits from the expanding Porsche Destination Charging network being installed across metro and regional sites.
Porsche Destination Chargers capable of AC charging are being installed across both metropolitan and regional sites giving owners access to complimentary charging of Porsche models.
Porsche Destination Charging will continue to be installed at premium lifestyle destinations such as luxury hotels, theatres and entertainment venues, restaurants, shopping precincts and cellar door locations.
Porsche owners are encouraged to visit the Porsche Destination Charging network section online to find charging locations as the network continues to grow. As chargers are activated they will be added to the ’charging at your destination’ section.
Pure exterior design with Porsche DNA
With its clean design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA.
From the front it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear. The highly sculpted side sections are also characteristic.
The headlights of the Taycan are fitted with an innovative floating appearance at the front. For the first time, all light functions are also integrated into a single module. This means that no additional front lights are required, allowing for a very clean design.
A typical Porsche feature is the active aerodynamics, including the rear spoiler, which can be extended in three stages depending on the driving situation. The horizontal lines of the rear and the strong shoulders of the wings continue the deep, broad sports car look of the Taycan and the aerodynamically optimised diffuser with the very low position of the license plate holder brings the car closer to the road visually.
With a drag co-efficient (Cd) value from 0.22^^, the aerodynamically optimised basic shape contributes to low energy consumption and thus a longer range.
Air intakes (Air Curtains) are located under the headlights, creating a vertical connection with the LED headlight and permanently improving the car’s aerodynamics. Combined with the flatter bonnet section, the cooling air intakes – which are significantly smaller than those on cars with combustion engines – give the car an extremely modern appearance. The cooling air flaps integrated into the lateral air intakes supply cooling air to both the cooling circuit and the brakes as required.
The sleek cabin, the drawn-in rear C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the wings result in a sharply emphasised rear, typical of the brand. The fast sloping roof line is inspired by the 911.
The rear section of the Taycan impresses with the furthest possible retraction of the driver’s cab, or ’greenhouse‘, and the two rear wings. The continuous Light Strip encompasses the rear of the car with a narrow light design typical of the brand.
Unique interior design with a wide display screen band
The Porsche Advanced Cockpit signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and a completely new architecture.
The free-standing, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. This places a clear focus on the driver axis. A central, 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look.
All user interfaces have been completely newly designed for the Taycan. The number of classic hardware controls such as switches and buttons has been greatly reduced. Instead, control is intelligent and intuitive – using touch operation or the voice control function, which responds to the command ’Hey Porsche‘.
With the Taycan, Porsche offers an entirely leather-free interior for the first time. Interiors made from innovative recycled materials underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car.
‘Foot garages’ – recesses in the battery in the rear footwell – ensure sitting comfort in the rear and allow the low vehicle height typical of sports cars. Two luggage compartments are available; the front compartment has a capacity of 81 litres and the rear 366 litres.
Innovative drive motors and a two-speed transmission
The Taycan has two exceptionally efficient electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, thus making the cars all-wheel drive.
Both the range and the continuous power of the drive benefit from the high efficiency of the permanently excited synchronous motors.
The electric motors, transmission and pulse-controlled inverters are each combined into a compact drive module. The modules have the highest power density (kW per litre of package space) of all electric powertrains on the market today.
A special feature of the electric motors is the ‘hairpin’ winding of the stator coils. This technology makes it possible to incorporate more copper in the stator, increasing power output and torque while maintaining the same component volume.
The two-speed transmission installed on the rear axle is an innovation developed by Porsche. First gear gives the Taycan even more acceleration from a standing start, while second gear with a long gear ratio ensures high efficiency and equally high power reserves. This also applies at very high speeds.
Centrally networked chassis systems
The Taycan uses a centrally networked control system for the chassis. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in real time.
The innovative chassis systems include adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology including PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), electronic damper control, as well as the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) electromechanical roll stabilisation system including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus).
The all-wheel drive control with two electric motors and the recuperation system are unique. At up to 265 kW, the potential recuperation power is significantly higher than that of competitors. Driving tests have shown that approximately 90 percent of everyday braking is performed by the electric machines alone – without the hydraulic wheel brakes being activated.
The profile of the different driving modes basically follows the same philosophy as in other Porsche model series. This is supplemented by special settings which enable optimum use of the purely electric drive. Four driving modes are available: ‘Range’, ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport Plus’. In addition, individual systems can be configured as required in the ‘Individual’ mode.

What the press say
"The Taycan is a car that will charm you with its style, its dynamic prowess and its overall comfort. Don’t buy it because it’s an EV, buy it because it’s a Porsche.” Ken Gratton, Technical Editor Carsales.com.au
(Full review here.)
“This really is a proper Porsche that stirred my soul, even in the absence of combusting fuel. Indeed, if you sat down and thought about what the ideal first Porsche electric car might be, you’d probably come up with something very much like the Taycan.”
- Mike Costello, CarExpert (Full review here.)
“It is, absolutely and without question, still very much a Porsche .... with the Taycan, Porsche has declared that engaging performance motoring is far from through.”
-Kez Casey, CarAdvice (Full review here.)
“… the Taycan’s greatness actually has nothing to do with the fact that it’s an electric car, and everything to do with the fact that it’s a phenomenal sports car …”
- Justin Hillard, CarsGuide (Full review here.)
“It’s the best EV I’ve driven, hands down. It sounds like marketing bunk, but it’s a Porsche first and an EV second, and it handles both roles with aplomb.”
- Andrew Chesterton, EV Central (Full review here.)
“The empire strikes back. After years of having its pants pulled down by Tesla, the car industry establishment has finally produced an electric car that shades the Model S. The Porsche Taycan feels other-worldly … when the first corner arrives, the Porsche is in another class. Despite its bulk — it weighs roughly 400kg more than a 911 Turbo S — it stops, steers, grips and goes like a sports car …. Great to look at, stunning to drive, the Taycan is Porsche at its brilliant best.”
- Richard Blackburn, News.com.au (Full review here.)
