Porsche presents prestigious industry leadership award at the 2022 Australian Fashion Laureate

Porsche Cars Australia has presented the local fashion industry’s most important leadership award at this year’s Australian Fashion Laureate.

Widely regarded as the fashion’s industry’s highest accolades, the annual Australian Fashion Laureate, now in its 15th year, recognises and rewards leadership and innovation in the fashion industry across a variety of categories.

This year’s event was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney and was attended by more than 100 industry designers. Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director and CEO, Daniel Schmollinger, joined retailers, media, Australian Fashion Laureate alumni and government officials for the celebration.

2022 was the second year the Carla Zampatti Award for Excellence in Leadership, presented by Porsche, was awarded. This prestigious prize is given in tribute to the late Carla Zampatti AC, who was awarded the Australian Fashion Laureate in 2009 – the first woman to receive this honour – and whose illustrious designs pioneered and inspired Australia’s fashion industry for 56 years.

The Carla Zampatti Award for Excellence in Leadership, presented by Porsche, celebrates an individual’s contributions to advancing the position of women in the Australian fashion industry. This year’s proud award recipient was Leila Naja Hibri, CEO of the Australian Fashion Council and member of the University of Technology Sydney’s Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory Board.

Earning this prestigious award requires nominees to demonstrate outstanding contributions to advancing the positions of women and gender diverse people in the Australian fashion industry.

“Ground-breaking ideas originate with special people who are driven by dreams,” said Daniel Schmollinger, Porsche Cars Australia’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

“Creative leaders are responsible for much of what we all see, experience and enjoy, and the Australian Fashion Laureate acknowledges their important work.

“Congratulations to Leila Naja Hibri on receiving this important award. It is fitting recognition of her hard work and a reminder that Carla Zampatti continues to inspire women everywhere.”

The annual Australian Fashion Laureate was established in 2008 by IMG and the New South Wales government. It is one of the fashion industry’s leading awards events.

Porsche Cars Australia will continue its support of the Australian fashion industry in 2023 by partnering with Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. Porsche will present the runway show for new brand ALÉMAIS, which will present its innovative Resort ’24 collection and open the 2023 AAFW schedule.
