Porsche Hold IMSA Championship Lead Following Six Hours of Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, New York. A strong strategy boosted the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 to a fourth-place finish in the six-hour race at Watkins Glen in a competition that was settled on fuel mileage, boosting Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell to the championship lead.

A stopped car on track with 10 minutes remaining brought out the race’s 10th and final full course caution period, but the Porsche Penske Motorsport strategists brought the car to pit lane for a splash of fuel prior to pit lane closing. When the race resumed, two front-running cars drove to pit lane for fuel, elevating the No. 6 to its final finishing position.

The duo moved around teammates Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy in the championship hunt when the No. 7 963 finished 11th in class. That car saw its day end early following a spin and contact with the wall with one hour, 20 minutes remaining in the race. JDC-Miller MotorSports drove their No. 85 Porsche 963 to a 10th-place finish.

AO Racing’s No. 77 “Rexy” Porsche 911 GT3 R finished a challenging sixth in the GTD Pro class. Drivers Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler remain well-positioned in the championship hunt, ranking second in points.
