DRIVE Car of the Year

The annual Drive Car of the Year awards are issued by leading Australian motoring publication drive.com.au. Now in its 20th year, this prestigious awards program identifies the best new cars for Australian buyers across 19 separate new-vehicle categories.

Entry eligibility requires a new car to be new (or significantly updated) in the Australian new-car market and be on sale (not just able to be ordered) between 1 January and 31 December the year prior.

Winners from each category are selected based on assessment data gathered from DRIVE’s annual vehicle review and assessment program conducted in both Sydney and Melbourne throughout the year. Driving assessments of eligible cars are made during regular road testing by DRIVE’s reviewers. These assessments are combined with significant other data to establish purchase and ownership value for buyers.
