The new Porsche Taycan heads the field at this year’s TCS Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS

The new all-electric Porsche Taycan showed a clean set of wheels at Australia’s premiere distance-running event, the annual TCS Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS.

Porsche again set the pace as Official Automotive Partner and vehicle supplier for the annual major international event.

Four examples of Porsche’s new all-electric sports car completed lead vehicle duties for the event’s three elite-class races: the men’s, women’s, and men’s and women’s wheelchair marathons.

Porsche Cars Australia doubled its support fleet of Taycan sports cars for this year’s event, again giving leading competitors a fresh air run of the breath-taking 42-kilometre harbour-side course. Two Porsche Cayenne Coupe course cars were also kept busy throughout yesterday.

“Porsche is synonymous with endurance racing,” said Daniel Schmollinger, CEO and Managing Director of Porsche Cars Australia. “Sprint racing is a spike of excitement but distance racing intensifies the rewards because it requires the right mix of stamina, speed and focus.”

Porsche provided the leading racers with a special focal point of its own, one which offered more than a stylish view to chase.

“The athletic all-electric Taycan made the perfect lead vehicle for competitors, thanks to its lack of tailpipe emissions.”

This year’s winner of the Men’s marathon was Brimin Kipkorir Misoi. The Women’s marathon was won by Workenesh Edesa Gurmesa, the Men’s wheelchair category was won by Joshua Cassidy and Madison De Rozario took the win in the Women’s wheelchair category.

More than 40,000 participants from over 100 countries took part in this year’s event.

Challenging but beautiful

Competitors in this year’s full marathon events started from Milson’s Point in North Sydney and headed across the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge before looping through Pyrmont and then on to Kingsford. A lap of picturesque Centennial Park was followed by a run down to the Royal Botanic Gardens’ eastern waterfront and then back up and across to the finish line at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

Competitors enjoyed a well-earned post-race rest at the Recovery Village, located in Sydney’s lush Royal Botanic Gardens. A fascinating Porsche Taycan display activation captivated entrants, families and guests. It included a popular competition to win the use of a Porsche Taycan for a two-day Porsche Drive Rental experience.

While entrants cooled down in the Recovery Village, Porsche surprised them with a special race memento: a commemorative personalised poster with their name and race time recorded by a calligrapher.

Along with lead and course cars, Porsche showcased its support for Australia’s world-famous marathon race with extensive on-course signage and dedicated VIP areas at the start and finish lines.

The TCS Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS is the sole remaining participant legacy of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The event has raised more than $26.5 million dollars for charitable organisations since its inception.

Peaks Challenge Falls Creek is a gruelling 235 kilometre loop ride through Australia’s Victorian Alps. Every year thousands of riders take it on and, even though this year the Porsche Taycan was the event’s lead vehicle, it was Alison McCormack leading the riders across the finish line.
