Porsche Targa Tours: The 718 Cayman GT4 RS takes the high road

The Porsche Targa High Country Tour celebrates the exhilaration of Porsche sportscars on some of Australia’s greatest Alpine roads. This year, the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS took centre stage.

Most Porsche owners would relish the chance to drive their sportscar at pace on the same roads used for Australia’s most exciting and challenging tarmac rallies.

The annual Porsche Targa Tours program bring this to life. Every year, Porsche owners get the chance to enjoy the thrilling performance of their sportscars in a dedicated non-competitive Touring category during each of Australia’s three major tarmac rally events: Targa High Country, Targa Tasmania and Targa Great Barrier Reef.

Headlining the stunning machinery at this year’s Porsche Targa High Country Tour, held at the weekend, was the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS, a car perfectly suited to this four-day festival of driving exhilaration.

Two examples of Porsche’s new 718 flagship showcased their motorsport-derived driving dynamics on the fast and sweeping mountain roads throughout Victoria’s magnificent Alpine region.

Their 368 kW of maximum power and 450 Nm of torque were put to full use across the four-day customer event, which was based out of the stunning Breathtaker Alpine Spa Resort in Mount Buller.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday each comprised a variety of closed-road driving stages, where guests drove their Porsche sportscars at pace on the same thrilling closed-road special-stage sections used by the Targa High Country rally’s competitors.

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS captivated spectators and guests across the weekend. Its showcase of agility and remarkable cornering signalled its role as an uncompromising driver’s car, and its unmistakeable 4.0-litre flat-six engine soundtrack made its presence known.

The two cars were a magnet for the many guests participating in their year’s Porsche Targa High Country Tour. Customers and guests found the new model an exciting addition to this year’s Tour group, whose shared enjoyment created a fun and friendly setting for new and enduring friendships.

“The Porsche Targa Tours are a highlight in the calendar for Australia’s community of Porsche owners,” said Daniel Schmollinger, MD and CEO of Porsche Cars Australia. “Porsche sportscars are made for these sweeping Alpine roads through the Victorian high country, and to bring together so many passionate owners for this year’s Porsche Targa High Country Tour is a joy.”
