From rookie to professional with the 9:11 Porsche Podcast

In the latest Porsche Podcast, works driver Kévin Estre and Paul Casey, pro golfer and Porsche Brand Ambassador, come together to discuss their journeys from grass roots to the absolute pinnacle of their different disciplines.

Hosted by Sebastian Rudolph, Vice President of Communications, Sustainability and Politics at Porsche AG, the latest English episode of The Porsche Podcast focuses on sport – a subject at the core of the Porsche philosophy – and the challenges faced by the athletes whose talent and determination have seen them rise to the top.

Englishman Casey has won 20 professional tournaments since his debut in 2000 and has ranked as high as number three in the world. Today, alongside his work for Porsche, he is also a UNICEF ambassador. Estre, meanwhile, was born in France and won the Carrera Cup there in 2011. He became a Porsche factory driver in 2016 and won at Le Mans in the 911 RSR in 2018.

In the episode, Estre explains the difficult journey from go-karts to single seaters and into sports cars, talking about the sacrifices made, the luck that is needed and the perseverance required to bring everything together in the world of professional sport. Casey echoes this sentiment and talks about the challenges of coping with setbacks and the importance of having the right work ethic.

The pair discuss their dreams, such as overall victory at Le Mans and golf’s equally historic British Open, how pressure and preparation are key, and how negative thoughts must be kept at bay when that coveted win is almost in reach. Estre has recently become a father, and dad-of-two Casey shares his experiences of staying motivated, being away from family for extended periods, and how his caddy has a similar role to Estre’s race engineer.

Casey returns to defend his title at the Porsche European Open in Hamburg, which starts on 5 June, and Estre heads to Le Mans once again in the last week of August for the postponed 24-hour race.
