Recharge your batteries at home

Porsche offers all the products and services needed for everyday charging.

Electric cars can not only be charged at external charging stations, but also – and above all – at home. Experience with Porsche Taycan customers shows that in practice, this accounts for 80 per cent of all charging operations. Charging is possible in principle through a normal household socket. However, due to the low power and the long charging time that results, Porsche offers a comprehensive service and advises its customers on optimal home charging. The service begins before purchase with a multi-stage check of the infrastructure at the customer’s home and ends with the installation of a product from a comprehensive range of charging equipment.

Porsche Charging Pre-Check

With the Porsche Charging Pre-Check, prospective customers find out well in advance whether or not charging at home is a possibility. A short online questionnaire collects information on the residential and parking situation, existing power connections and internet availability. Based on this, the potential customer receives an initial assessment and a Pre-Check ID. If the customer wants individual advice, they can send this code to a Porsche Centre.

Porsche Home Check

Porsche Centres also offer a Home Check before the vehicle is purchased. An electrician comes and checks conditions on site. They can also install the charging station at a later date. The Porsche Centre then receives a report of the home visit so that it can give the customer the best advice on choosing the correct charging equipment.

Mobile products for charging at home

  • The basic model of the portable, three-kilogram Porsche Mobile Charger is available with a charging capacity of 3.6 or 7.2 kW for hybrid vehicles.

  • The Porsche Mobile Charger Plus charges vehicles at home or on the road with a maximum of 11 kW (standard on the Taycan).

  • With the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, which is also portable, a charging power of up to 22 kW is possible. The special feature of the most powerful model is its five-inch touch display. An internet connection allows the Connect functions to be used. Data such as the current battery charge level and the remaining charging time can be displayed either on the device or on a smartphone or tablet linked to it.

  • There are various ways to accommodate all the different Mobile Chargers, such as wall mounts with a practical clip-in system, charging docks and free-standing, compact charging pedestals.

Porsche Home Energy Manager

The Home Energy Manager (HEM) is an intelligent control centre. Connected to the customer’s domestic fuse box by the electrician, it ensures smooth and convenient charging at home. In combination with the Mobile Charger Connect, the Home Energy Manager can optimise the charging process in terms of performance, time, costs and power sources. It ensures maximum charging power while taking account of the individual domestic power supply.

The Home Energy Manager can also specifically charge vehicles at times when other electrical devices in the household are not typically being used. The HEM can also manage charging operations for several vehicles simultaneously. Chronology, prioritisation and scheduled departure times are among the factors it takes into account. It also helps to reduce the costs of charging. If the customer has an electricity tariff that is cheaper at certain times of day, the Home Energy Manager can shift charging to those times.

Optimised for the use of self-generated power, the HEM allows targeted charging with domestically produced solar power. When the freely selectable minimum charge level is reached, only solar power not being consumed by the house is used for charging.
