Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti takes commanding win and points lead

Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti claimed a commanding victory in the sixth round of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at Zandvoort, Netherlands. After finishing fifth on Saturday, the Schumacher CLRT driver bounced back to take the lead in the championship standings with a dominant performance in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Fellow Frenchman Marvin Klein scored his best result of the season in second, while Saturday’s race winner Janne Stiak from Germany completed the podium in third.

Persistent rain over the Dutch North Sea coast covered the Zandvoort circuit in water, forcing the Carrera Cup teams to start on treaded rain tyres for the first time this season. On a track that gradually dried out, the race unfolded into a thrilling sprint packed with bold overtaking moves and wheel-to-wheel action, especially among the front runners. Polesitter Ghiretti and front-row partner Robert de Haan both struggled off the line, dropping back in the opening meters.

Driving for GP Elite, Ariel Levi from Israel seized an early lead ahead of Target driver Stiak, with both drivers holding position through two safety car restarts. While de Haan lost ground, Ghiretti maintained contact with the leading pack. By lap eight, he had advanced from fourth to second, and just three laps later, the Porsche Junior was back at the front. Stretching his lead to over six seconds, Ghiretti took his second win of the season. ‟The setup of my 911 GT3 Cup was perfect for these mixed conditions,” said Ghiretti. ‟Credit to my engineer and mechanic.”

Behind him, Marvin Klein, the second French driver in the German Carrera Cup field, put in a solid drive. Starting from eighth on the grid, the Proton Huber Competition driver expertly picked his way through the field, pulling off a series of clean overtakes. In the final moments, he swept past both Levi and Stiak, but fell short of catching his fellow countryman. ‟A comeback like that only works when the conditions are challenging and my car was fantastic. I could push whenever I needed to,” beamed Klein.

After his victory on Saturday, Janne Stiak’s Sunday race turned into a rollercoaster. ‟My start was perfect and at one point I was even leading briefly. But I braked too hard, ploughed through the gravel, and had to fight back,” said the 18-year-old from the Italian Target team, who ultimately salvaged third.

Behind Levi in fourth, two local Dutch favourites crossed the line: Kas Haverkort (Team GP Elite) in fifth, and Senna van Soelen in sixth. Van Soelen’s result also secured him top honours among the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool drivers. The 19-year-old represents Team75 Bernhard, owned by Porsche brand ambassador and two-time Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard.

It was a day of milestones in the Rookie classification: Joseph Warhurst claimed his maiden class victory, with Emely de Heus becoming the first woman this season to climb the Rookie podium. ‟These were classic British conditions, absolutely perfect for me,” smiled Warhurst, a Proton Huber Competition driver from England and part of the Talent Pool. Driving for ID Racing, de Heus, the only female driver in the field, finished third in class, marking her best result of the season so far. Despite a DNF, Sacha Norden (Proton Huber Competition) still tops the Rookie leaderboard.

In the ProAm category, Michael Schrey claimed his second win of the season with a smart race tactic. ‟I conserved my tyres early on – absolutely the right call. As the track dried, I managed to pick off one rival after the other,” said the Bonk Motorsport driver from Germany. Michael Eschmann (Team75 Bernhard) took second, while Ahmad Alshehab (a-workx by Porsche Paderborn) finished third and retained his lead in the ProAm overall standings.

‟Spectators were again treated to motorsport at its best in Zandvoort,” said Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
‟Both races were packed with action over the entire field – that’s exactly what a one-make cup should be. Congratulations to Janne Stiak and Alessandro Ghiretti. The battle for the crown is closer than ever.”
