Rookie Flynt Schuring wins the qualifying in Barcelona

Pole position for Flynt Schuring at round three of the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona: Driving for the Schumacher CLRT team, the 18-year-old Dutchman turned the fastest lap in Saturday’s qualifying session. His teammate, Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, will join him on the front row. Meanwhile, bad luck struck Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus – the current overall leader in the Supercup will start the race from 13th on the grid.

Flynt Schuring’s clever tactics earned him pole position for the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Barcelona. The 18-year-old rookie from Schumacher CLRT waited longer than his rivals to head out onto the track, taking advantage of clearer conditions. Setting a blistering lap time of 1.43,784 minutes, Schuring shattered the previous qualifying record by roughly 3,5 seconds – a record set back in 2018 by Michael Ammermüller with the earlier-generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. ‟We decided to wait with the first set of tyres to benefit from the clearer and faster track,” Schuring explained. ‟It worked perfectly. My plan for tomorrow? Get a good start and hold on to the lead…”

Lining up alongside the Dutchman on the front row is teammate and Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti. ‟Overall, it was a good qualifying,” said the Frenchman. ‟Unfortunately, my best lap was cancelled, otherwise I could’ve done even better. Still, a spot next to my teammate on the front row is not a bad place to start.”

Fellow Dutchmen Robert de Haan (BWT Lechner Racing) and Huub van Eijndhoven (Team GP Elite) will start third and fourth, respectively. ‟It was incredibly close once again,” emphasised Monaco winner de Haan. ‟We still need to find a bit more performance because I was already pushing to my absolute limit. Tomorrow, we’ll just focus on harnessing the full potential of our package."

Theo Oeverhaus was anything but happy. The second Porsche Junior had initially qualified his 911 GT3 Cup for the front row, but his best lap was deleted for exceeding track limits – relegating the championship leader from Proton Huber Competition far down the field to P13 on the grid. He now faces a challenging race.

Keagan Masters achieved exactly the same lap time as pole sitter Schuring. However, the South African from Team Ombra Racing suffered two setbacks: First, he was demoted three places on the grid as a penalty for causing a collision in the previous race in Monaco. This would have meant he would have started tomorrow's sprint race from fifth place. However, during the technical post-race inspection, the ground clearance of the No. 18 car was found to be too low, so Masters was disqualified. He will start tomorrow's race from last place.

Once again, the session in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup proved fiercely competitive. The top 19 cars were separated by less than nine-tenths of a second – setting the stage for a nail-biting battle on Sunday. Round three gets underway in Barcelona at 11:45 am, with 15 laps over a total distance of 69.855 kilometres – or a maximum race time of 30 minutes plus one lap.
