The Dutchman took the flag in Proton Huber Competition’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in third place. Second overall handed Kas Haverkort victory in the Rookie class. The Dutchman competes for Uniserver by Team GP Elite.
‟After experiencing bad luck in the last few races, this win feels great,” said a delighted Harry King. ‟Now I just have to finish ahead of Larry again tomorrow, then anything is possible at the finale in Hockenheim in three weeks.” The duel between ten Voorde and King heads into the next round at the Red-Bull-Ring tomorrow at 11:15 am, with race 14 of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Tackling Saturday’s race from position three on the grid, King promptly outpaced Sachsenring winner Janne Stiak (Team 75 Bernhard) in the sprint to the first corner. Alexander Tauscher (Proton Huber Competition) initially made the most of his pole position and defended the lead. However, in the battle with King, the Bavarian repeatedly exceeded the track limits and the subsequent penalty relegated him to fourth place.
As a result, the remaining podium spots went to Kas Haverkort and Larry ten Voorde. The leader of the table seemed satisfied with third place. ‟I would’ve been happy for my teammate Alexander Tauscher to win but I started from P5 and made up two places. I think I got the most out of it,” stated ten Voorde.
Rookie winner Haverkort felt the same way: ‟Second place overall is great, but my main goal is still the Rookie title.” In this category, the 20-year-old Dutchman reduced the gap to leader Robert de Haan, who finished fourth. Haverkort was joined on the Rookie podium by his compatriot Senna van Soelen (Target Competition) and Germany’s Colin Jamie Bönighausen (CarTech Motorsport). Securing fifth and sixth place overall respectively, the two achieved their best results of the season.
The spectators were treated to an action-packed race with plenty of overtaking – also in the ProAm class: ‟In our category, everyone was in the lead at some point. I visited the gravel trap once and had to deal with a bit of jostling,” said Michael Essmann, who drives for CarTech Motorsport. Ultimately, he beat his teammate Kai Pfister and Team GP Elite driver Sören Spreng to the finish line. Spreng holds on to the ProAm category lead.
