Larry ten Voorde already has one hand on the overall winner’s trophy. Driving for the German Proton Huber Competition team, the Dutchman travels to Spielberg with a staggering 51-point lead over Harry King. With a maximum of 50 points awarded per weekend, the Englishman from the German Allied-Racing squad must secure at least one point over Larry ten Voorde in the two Spielberg races. If not, the 27-year-old defending champion will secure his fourth consecutive overall victory before the finale in Hockenheim.
“I’m not thinking too much about the title. I want to enjoy the Red-Bull-Ring, which is one of my favourite tracks,” says Larry ten Voorde. Last season during the penultimate round on the Austrian Formula 1 circuit, he clinched a victory and fifth place, crowning him Carrera Cup champion – his third such title. “I also want to lead Proton Huber Competition to overall victory in the Teams championship,” added ten Voorde.
Proton Huber Competition, represented on the track by ten Voorde and the two Germans Alexander Tauscher and Sebastian Freymuth, currently ranks first in the Teams standings. The Bavarians only rival still with hopes is Uniserver by Team GP Elite. The Dutchmen Huub van Eijndhoven and Kas Haverkort as well as Ariel Levi from Israel will line up for the team based near Amsterdam.
Four drivers from the Netherlands are within just 41 points of each other and thus still have a shot at winning the Rookie title. Robert de Haan (Team75 Bernhard) currently holds the lead ahead of Kas Haverkort (Uniserver by Team GP Elite) and Flynt Schuring (Team Proton Huber Competition). With a win and second place at the Sachsenring, Senna van Soelen (Target Competition) has also worked his way into the group of title contenders.
In the ProAm class, the title duel between German drivers Sören Spreng (GP Elite) and Michael Essmann (CarTech Motorsport) continues into the coming round.

Additionally, of course, the alpine backdrop contributes to the extraordinary atmosphere of this racetrack. The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland competes at the Red-Bull-Ring as part of the DTM. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will contest a 30-minute race plus one lap on both Saturday and Sunday. Last season, Larry ten Voorde secured his third title with a victory. The second race was won by the former Porsche Junior Bastian Buus from Denmark.
Today’s Red-Bull-Ring dates back to the then six-kilometre-long Österreichring, which was opened in 1969. From 1970, the circuit near Zeltweg and Spielberg hosted Formula 1 World Championship races. After being revamped twice, the track, which was renamed the Red-Bull-Ring in 2011, now measures 4.318 kilometres in length.
