The Porsche Team has concluded this year’s in-season testing schedule with the 919 Hybrid after four days running in Aragon in Northern Spain.
In total the drivers covered 4,284 kilometres between Monday and Thursday. The majority of the test work in the lead up to the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) on November 2 in Shanghai was done by the regular LMP1 drivers, Timo Bernhard (Germany), Romain Dumas (France) and Neel Jani (Switzerland). However, once again Porsche works drivers from the GT category were invited to drive the LMP1 car. In Aragon Richard Lietz (Austria), Patrick Pilet (France) and Nick Tandy (Great Britain) got behind the wheel of the 919 Hybrid, following their colleagues Michael Christensen (Denmark) and Frédéric Makowiecki (France), who tested in September at Magny-Cours (France).
Team and drivers worked very productively
With pleasant ambient temperatures and a dry track, the testing conditions were good. Team Principal Andreas Seidl recapped: “We came here with a very comprehensive programme for our final 2014 in-season test and we’re pleased to have ticked off our entire job list. The focus was on set-up work for the three remaining races in Shanghai, Bahrain and Sao Paulo. We were working on the suspension settings and aerodynamics, but also carried out detailed tyre testing. Again, our team and our regular drivers worked very productively, while Richard, Patrick and Nick also did a very good job. The Porsche squad of GT works drivers is top-class and very well trained. Right from the beginning, the LMP1 team benefitted from that, and we are happy to give something back with the chance to test for us. Internal promotion is important. Overall, after these four days we feel well prepared for the three six-hour races in November.”
