Porsche has enjoyed success in motorsport together with its customer teams for three-quarters of a century. The first chapter dates back to the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans, where a factory-prepared 356 SL scored a class win in customer hands.
“Motorsport has been at the heart of our brand for 75 years,” says Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. “Since then, we have used it as a development platform for future technologies and a place to demonstrate the potential of our sports cars. Andretti and our factory team entering the anniversary year level on points symbolises a key principle: customer racing and our customer teams hold outstanding importance for Porsche. They are the foundation of our motorsport activities.”
Porsche’s record in Mexico City
Porsche can look back on several milestones in its Formula E history in the Mexican capital. In 2022, the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric topped the podium at an E-Prix for the first time, with Pascal Wehrlein and his then teammate André Lotterer securing a one-two finish. Lotterer had already taken Porsche’s maiden pole position in Formula E at the Mexico event in 2020. In 2023, Jake Dennis claimed another victory for a Porsche-powered car with the Andretti customer team. Wehrlein won again in 2024, followed by a double podium in 2025 with António Félix da Costa in second and Wehrlein in third. Former World Champion Wehrlein also holds a Formula E record in Mexico as the only driver to have taken four pole positions at the same venue.
Formula E races on a 2.548-kilometre section of the Formula 1 circuit in Mexico City, passing through the Foro Sol baseball stadium as its iconic highlight, and up to 40,000 fans cheer the electric single-seaters in the Autódromo. Unlike combustion-engine racing cars, the high altitude of the venue (2,285 metres above sea level) has no direct impact on the power output of the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric. Porsche celebrated victories in Mexico City even before the start of its Formula E programme, as in 2016, Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley dominated the FIA World Endurance Championship round in the Porsche 919 Hybrid. The following year, Bernhard and Hartley repeated the win alongside Earl Bamber.

Comments on the Mexico City E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “We are very pleased to be returning to the circuit with Porsche’s greatest successes. Six podium finishes for the factory team and seven podiums for the Porsche 99X Electric over the past four years represent a sensational record. Added to this are three victories with the 99X Electric during that period – two of them achieved by Pascal Wehrlein. This gives us cause for optimism. We had a strong start to the season, and we now want to build on that and fight for podium finishes and victories in Mexico with both drivers. We are especially looking forward to racing once again in front of these fantastic fans.”
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#94): “I’m really looking forward to going back to Mexico. It’s one of my favourite places to race. We’ve always been competitive there in the past, and the fans are simply outstanding. I’m excited for the next race weekend. In São Paulo, the pace was strong, which gives us something solid to build on and I’m already looking forward to getting back in the car.”
Nico Müller, Porsche factory driver (#51): “The anticipation for Mexico is definitely high. The circuit has always been a good place for Porsche, so expectations are accordingly strong. Mexico also holds many positive memories for me personally. We already showed a strong performance there last year – and that was only my second race with the Porsche 99X Electric. So we can look forward to the weekend, even though the competition will, of course, not be standing still. We need to do our homework. In addition, the removal of the chicane means the layout will not be entirely the same, and we have to prepare for that. We are highly motivated, want to approach the task flat out and, ideally, significantly add to our points tally in the second race of the season to start the year on a positive note.”
Racing for Charity
With the Racing for Charity initiative, Porsche is making a strong social commitment in the current Formula E season, supporting seriously ill children worldwide. For every lap completed by the two factory-run Porsche 99X Electric, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer donates 400 euros to the charitable organisations Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V. and the Ferry Porsche Foundation. In the opening race, Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller completed as many laps as possible (60), resulting in a donation of 24,000 euros.
Porsche in Formula E
As the reigning Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Champion, Porsche contests its seventh Formula E season in 2025/2026. In addition to the factory Porsche Formula E Team, the US customer team Andretti Formula E will compete with the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric of the latest generation GEN3 Evo. A second Porsche customer team, Cupra Kiro, will also participate, relying on 99X technology from the previous generation GEN3. In Formula E, the brand gains valuable insights for its production sports cars.
