“33,000 spectators and tennis of the highest class – we’re very satisfied”

World class tennis on Centre Court in the Porsche Arena and a brilliant atmosphere in the stands: the 48th Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has fulfilled all expectations. When reviewing the event, the Tournament Director Markus Günthardt and the Operating Tournament Director Anke Huber were accordingly highly positive. Ahead of the final, they spoke about...

...the 2025 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix:

Markus Günthardt: “The tournament was once again a success in every respect - – 33,000 spectators and tennis of the highest class, we’re very satisfied. We had a capacity crowd in the Porsche Arena from Thursday to Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday weren’t far from being sold-out. It’s the highest attendance for many years. The atmosphere was magnificent, just what one comes to expect from the Stuttgart crowd – fair, knowledgeable, emotional and with an antenna for tight, high-class matches. We stage this tournament for such special moments and the crowd’s reactions. The show event under the motto „Kick & Serve: Porsche Tennis meets VfB Stuttgart“ was a successful start to the weekend and the Bose Sound Night on Saturday evening with Kelvin Jones went down particularly well. We welcomed about 3,300 guests in the VIP lounge and the new concept was well received. All-in-all we’ve boosted the emotional visitor experience – with a greater focus on the cars, the musical presentation and the systematic integration of the spectators. The focus is clearly on the sporting aspects, the Centre Court is our core. It’s where the spectators should sit during the matches. It’s the atmosphere that is transported around the world. What’s more, it’s a big privilege that the Board of Management of Porsche AG is right behind the tournament.”

... the exceptional media interest:

Markus Günthardt: “As far as the media is concerned, there was big interest in the  tournament. In Germany, 24 Centre Court matches were shown live on Eurosport, Sky and Tennis Channel, all the other matches from Court 1 were streamed. In total, 150 hours were televised live alone in Germany – worldwide the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix was broadcast in over 200 countries. Digital interest was also huge with about eight million social media contacts and about 225,000 visitors to our online platforms.”

...the tournament tenniswise:

Anke Huber: “This week, we have watched tennis of the highest order – perhaps even the best women’s tennis we’ve ever seen. We had an exceptional field. Eight Top 10 players had entered and six actually played. The fact that five of the Top 6 were in the quarterfinals speaks for the outstanding quality of our tournament. Within the Top 30, they can all beat each other, something you can see in Ekaterina Alexandrova, who had a great tournament here. Also outstanding for me was the semifinal between Jasmine Paolini and Aryna Sabalenka. This is Aryna’s fifth appearance in the final and she deserves the winner’s car. But it’ll be an exciting match. Ostapenko has also had a great tournament. Whatever happens, we’ll have a new winner that will take the Porsche Macan Turbo back home with her. The players feel so at home here, something that’s communicated to us over and over again. And the fantastic atmosphere also played its part.”

…German women’s tennis:

Anke Huber: “The strong German contingent was a really pleasing aspect for me. Five players were in the main draw, two in the second round – including a youngster. Ella Seidel showed her potential in her match against Tatjana Maria and then gained valuable experience against Coco Gauff. Jule Niemeier came close against Paolini and even had a set point in the second set. We can see a lot of potential within our players, but they have to establish themselves permanently at this level. It’s why it was totally right to give the four wild cards to German players. It led to fantastic support in the stands and gives our talented youngsters the chance to compete against the world’s best. In future, the places can increasingly go to youngsters: Eva Lys, our new Porsche Friend in Germany has a lot in her favour as do Jule Niemeier and Ella Seidel. And when at some stage we have a German back among the seeds, then it would be the nicest thing for us tournament organisers.”
