“Racing for Charity”: Porsche links title defence with a good cause

Porsche is entering its seventh ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season as reigning Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Champion, and will embark on a strong message of social responsibility. Under the motto “Racing for Charity”, the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer will donate €400 for every race lap completed by its two factory-run Porsche 99X Electric cars during the 2025/2026 season. The donations will support three charitable organisations, including Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V., and the Ferry Porsche Foundation.

The programme has already generated more than €2.4 million for charitable causes in recent years. Previously, donations were based on the laps completed by the Porsche 963 of Porsche Penske Motorsport at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The initiative has now been expanded to Formula E. The commitment will be visible through dedicated branding on both Porsche 99X Electric cars.

“Our works team is not only competing for world championship titles this season, but also for the highest possible donation amount,” says Dr. Michael Steiner, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development. “Porsche has always embraced its social responsibility. With Racing for Charity, we continue our support for seriously ill children worldwide – now for the fourth time. We are delighted to bring the initiative to Formula E as well.”

Porsche in São Paulo

São Paulo hosts a Formula E race for the fourth time and, for the second consecutive year, as the season opener. Porsche’s best result came in December last year, when Pascal Wehrlein secured pole position and António Félix da Costa finished second. The 2.933-kilometre street circuit runs around the Anhembi Convention Centre, with the start–finish straight located in the Sambadrome, normally used for carnival parades.

In the Brazilian metropolis, Nico Müller makes his race debut in the factory-run 99X Electric. The Swiss driver succeeds da Costa as the new teammate of former World Champion Wehrlein. Last season, Müller competed for the Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E. The renowned US outfit returns once again this season, as does the second Porsche customer team, Cupra Kiro.

AVEVA joins as new partner

Porsche begins its title defence in São Paulo with strong partners at its side. The world championship-winning team is supported by Mobil 1, TDK, LOCTITE, TAG Heuer, PUMA, Synopsys, NetApp and Cato Networks. AVEVA now joins this line-up. The British company, headquartered in Cambridge, describes itself as a global leader in industrial software as well as industrial technology and AI solutions. AVEVA now appears as an official Technology Partner of the Porsche Formula E Team.

Final season with current race cars

The São Paulo E-Prix also marks the start of the final season of the GEN3 era. Until the finale in August, the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric will continue to compete under the technical regulations of Formula E’s third vehicle generation. At the same time, Porsche Motorsport at the Weissach Development Centre is preparing for the next generation. The GEN4 race car will offer up to 600 kW (more than 800 hp), increased downforce and lap times expected to sit between Formula 2 and the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1.

Comments on the São Paulo E-Prix

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “We’re looking forward to the season opener in São Paulo just before the holiday season. It’s a very exciting circuit where a lot can happen. After pre-season testing in Valencia, we head into Season 12 well prepared, full of anticipation and optimism. Nico has already integrated very well into the team, and it has been great to see him and Pascal working together. We’re excited to compete with this driver pairing for the first time. We know it will be a challenging season as GEN4 testing runs in parallel with the race season. But we are well equipped, with a fantastic team, a highly efficient 99X Electric and two drivers who have everything it takes to fight for the world championship titles right to the very end. That remains our goal.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#94): “The key to the coming season will be to improve slightly in every area. We want to strengthen the things we already do well, and address the areas where we struggled a little last year. We’ve learned a lot as a team and we now want to apply that knowledge consistently. If we manage that, we can compete at the front again this season.”

Nico Müller, Porsche factory driver (#51): “The start of a new season is always a highlight – and my first race for the Porsche Formula E Team will be a particularly special moment for me. I’m looking forward to finding a rhythm with the team and enjoying the weekend. Testing is one thing, but in the first race you feel the true teamwork under race conditions for the first time. I want to begin the season calm and focused, and extract the maximum from our package.”

Porsche in Formula E

As the reigning Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Champion, Porsche will contest its seventh Formula E season in 2025/2026. In addition to the factory Porsche Formula E Team, the US customer team Andretti Formula E will compete with the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric of the latest generation GEN3 Evo. A second Porsche customer team, Cupra Kiro, will also participate, relying on 99X technology from the previous generation GEN3. In Formula E, the brand gains valuable insights for its production sports cars.
