With third place, Dutch GP Elite driver Larry ten Voorde extended his championship lead. Next up on the one-make cup calendar with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is the Sachsenring (8 to 10 September 2023).
Bastian Buus could breathe a big sigh of relief: “I’ve finished second three times this season, and now we’ve finally managed to win,” said the delighted Porsche Junior after a turbulent race at the Lausitzring. Taking up the race from the second grid spot, Buus swept past polesitter Loek Hartog already during the first lap. Shortly after, the safety car was deployed to spearhead the field of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup following a collision on the start-finish straight of the 3.478-kilometre EuroSpeedway. Once the race went green again, Hartog involuntarily reshuffled the order at the front: While accelerating after the restart, a technical glitch slowed down Hartog’s car briefly hampering his GP Elite teammate Larry ten Voorde. Harry King grabbed this chance to pass ten Voorde. At the same time, Bastian Buus had pulled about three seconds clear of his pursuers.
The Porsche Junior then proceeded to bring home his first win of the season unchallenged. While Hartog had to retire, King and ten Voorde became engaged in a heated duel for the remaining laps. “Larry put huge pressure on me but we’ve improved compared to yesterday, where the orange cars celebrated a one-two result,” commented King, referring to Saturday’s race that Loek Hartog had won ahead of Larry ten Voorde. Nevertheless, the championship leader was satisfied with his third place: “With a view to the situation in the overall standings, I didn’t take too many risks,” conceded ten Voorde. His advantage over the new second-placed driver Harry King stays at 54 points. Ranking fourth overall, Porsche Junior Bastian Buus reduced the gap to Hartog and King. “That was precisely my goal for this weekend. Hopefully, things will continue like this at the Sachsenring,” said the Dane as the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland heads to the next doubleheader event.
Fourth place went to Morris Schuring (FACH AUTO TECH). The Dutchman succeeded in making up five positions from his grid spot. His fellow countryman Huub van Eijndhoven (GP Elite) finished fifth with Harri Jones (Scherer Sport PHX) taking the flag in sixth. However, both lost their respective positions due to time penalties for causing collisions. These decisions handed fifth place and victory in the Rookie classification to Germany’s Theo Overhaus (CarTech Motorsport Bonk). Ghislain Cordeel from Belgium (GP Elite) was classified as second Rookie, with Jones in third. In the ProAm classification, Ahmad Alshehab from Kuwait (CarTech Motorsport Bonk) beat the Bulgarian Georgi Donchev (ProfilDoors by Huber Racing) and Michael Essmann (CarTech Motorsport Bonk) from Germany. “I tackled the race from third in the ProAm class and initially fell back even further in the race. In the second half of the race, I managed to work my way back up the order and only grabbed the ProAm lead on the last lap,” said Alshehab after his 22-lap race on Lausitzring.
“As expected, the two races at the Lausitzring were action-packed and a great start to the second half of the season. Congratulations to Loek Hartog, who has made a comeback with his victory on Saturday, and to Porsche Junior Bastian Buus for his first win of the season. Larry ten Voorde has held on to his clear lead in the standings, however the hunting pack has bunched closer together and is definitely determined to catch Larry. There has also been some reshuffling in the Rookie and ProAm rankings. In any case, the remaining six races promise to be very exciting,” commented Hurui Issak, Project Manager Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.
Rounds eleven and twelve of the season will be contested in three weeks (8-9 September 2023) at the Sachsenring, one of Germany’s most storied racetracks.

Race 9
Round nine of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland concluded with a convincing lights-to-flag victory for Loek Hartog. At the Lausitzring near Dresden, the Dutchman crossed the finish line first ahead of his GP Elite teammate Larry ten Voorde. The two Allied Racing drivers, Porsche Junior Bastian Buus from Denmark and Harry King from the UK, followed in third and fourth. Securing a strong sixth place overall, Vincent Andronaco won the Rookie classification. Fellow German Sören Spreng clinched victory in the ProAm classification for the sixth time this season.
After the first four races of the season and two victories, Loek Hartog held the lead of the overall standings of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland – then the almost two-metre-tall Dutchman went through a dry spell. “When things didn’t quite go to plan, I initially thought, ok, this can happen. After the second race with problems, the doubts started to creep in. It took us two more races to find a solution. I’m finally back,” said Hartog, obviously thrilled with his victory at the Lausitzring. The 20-year-old tackled the race from pole position, his fourth so far this season. His only threat came at the start when he had to fend off his GP Elite teammate Larry ten Voorde, who had started from alongside him on the front grid row. “I blocked his attempt to overtake, and then managed to control the race from the front,” stated Hartog.
“Loek drove a flawless race. I’m happy with second place,” said ten Voorde, with a view to the overall standings, where Hartog took over second position from Harry King. The British racer finished fourth behind his Allied-Racing teammate, Porsche Junior Bastian Buus from Denmark. “My car ran beautifully and I could easily follow Loek and Larry. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to overtake. I need to do that tomorrow right at the start,” said Buus as he heads into the tenth race of the season on Sunday (11:20 am). The Dane will then line up on the grid next to Loek Hartog, with ten Voorde and King sharing the second row.
Sixth place in the race, which was interrupted by two safety car periods, went to Morris Schuring (FACH AUTO TECH). The Dutchman was able to assert himself against Vincent Andronaco (Allied-Racing). As the fastest Rookie, the German took the lead in the overall ranking of the Carrera Cup newcomers. “The second Rookie win in a row – my season is finally taking off,” beamed Andronaco. He was joined on the Rookie podium by Belgian Ghislain Cordeel (GP Elite) and Jasin Ferati (FACH AUTO TECH) from Switzerland.
Sören Spreng (GP Elite) won the ProAm classification for the sixth time this year. “That was a tough race because of the heat,” said the German after the race in 30-degree temperatures. “Still, I made it over the finish line and had a couple of decent duels on the way.” Positions two and three in the ProAm classification were occupied by Ahmad Alshehab from Kuwait (CarTech Motorsport Bonk) and Kai Pfister (HRT Performance) from Germany.

Preview
Next weekend (18 to 20 August 2023), the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland kicks off the second half of the season at the Lausitzring. Thanks to five victories from eight races so far this season, Dutchman Larry ten Voorde leads the standings. His pursuers include Harry King from the UK, Loek Hartog from the Netherlands and Porsche Junior Bastian Buus from Denmark. The field of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will contest races on Saturday and Sunday, each over ca. 30 minutes.
Larry ten Voorde has dominated the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season so far. Competing for the GP Elite squad, the two-time champion has won five of the eight races contested and claimed the second step of the podium twice and the third spot once. The 26-year-old Dutchman leads the drivers’ standings with a 51-point advantage – the equivalent of more than two victories.
Moreover, Larry ten Voorde has won at the Lausitzring – albeit three years ago. “I like this circuit. I reckon I’ve got a good chance of winning this time too,” he says, looking ahead to the doubleheader event this coming weekend at the impressive racetrack just north of Dresden.
Built along the lines of American NASCAR and IndyCar circuits, the EuroSpeedway consists of an outer high-speed oval and twisty infield passages. The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland races on a combination of both sections, which adds up to a lap length of 3.478 kilometres.
“Alternating between the high speeds on the oval and comparatively slow cornering speeds in the infield throws unique challenges at us drivers,” describes Porsche Junior Bastian Buus. The Dane from the German Allied-Racing team currently ranks third in the standings behind his British teammate Harry King and GP Elite driver Loek Hartog from the Netherlands. Buus is the only member of the hunting pack that has yet to score a victory this season. King has clinched one win, with Hartog securing two.
“Last year I set pole position at the Lausitzring. Then things didn’t go so well in the races. This time I want to close the gap to Loek and Harry and climb the podium at least twice. Maybe I could even win,” Buus said.
“The Lausitzring is one of the highlights on the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland calendar – its huge dimensions create a very special atmosphere. And the track layout has always been good for action-packed racing in the past. I’m looking forward to the weekend at the Lausitz, which I hope will stay dry for us,” says Hurui Issak, Project Manager Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, in reference to the torrential rain recently at the Nürburgring as well as last year at the EuroSpeedway.
Rookies, ProAm and teams classifications
With drivers Larry ten Voorde, Loek Hartog and Huub van Eijndhoven, GP Elite has established itself at the top of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland team standings. In addition, points are awarded in the Rookies and ProAm categories. In the rookie category, eleven talented youngsters from six countries compete against each other. After eight races, Theo Oeverhaus holds the lead in the standings. Competing for CarTech Motorsport Bonk, the German ranks seventh overall and is also the best-placed young driver from the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool. His fellow countryman Sören Spreng from the GP Elite squad currently leads the ProAm standings.
