His photo of Andrea Petkovic serving in the Porsche Arena won the dpa photographer Marijan Murat first prize in the “General Sports Action” category of the “Sports Photo of the Year” competition organised by the “kicker” sports magazine and the Association of German Sports Journalists beginning of the year.
The photo was taken at the 2019 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. “I had the idea of taking action portraits highlighting a player’s concentration when serving,” said the photographer who has been coming to the long-standing tournament for years. “In cooperation with the tournament, I installed a camera in the roof directly above the base line. Its wireless technology enabled me to take photos from below on Centre Court. What I also really like, in addition to the special perspective, is that you can see just how emotional and totally concentrated Andrea Petkovic is."
