The focus at the IAA will be on the brand’s first all-electric sports car, the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S. “The Taycan redefines Porsche,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG: “Our goal was to herald the era of electromobility for Porsche with the sportiest, most innovative and most emotionally charged vehicle. To coincide with the start of the motor show, there are also new additions to the 911 family. The all-wheel-drive models 911 Carrera 4 Coupé and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with 283 kW (385 PS; 911 Carrera 4 models: combined fuel consumption 9.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions 211-210 g/km) now extend the product range of the standard 911 model. Other highlights are three new hybrid models in the Cayenne series: the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé with a system output of 340 kW (462 PS; combined fuel consumption 3.2-3.1 l/100 km, combined power consumption 18.7-17.7 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emissions 75-72 g/km) as well as the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid as Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé with 500 kW (680 PS; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid: combined fuel consumption 3.9-3.7 l/100 km, combined power consumption 19.6-18.7 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emissions 90-85 g/km; Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupé: combined fuel consumption 3.9-3.7 l/100 km, combined power consumption 19.6-18.7 kWh/100 km, combined CO2 emissions 90-85 g/km). The flagship model of the compact SUV model line, the Macan Turbo, is also making its motor show debut. In addition, Porsche will also present the vehicle with which the company will enter the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in November: the Porsche 99X Electric.

The new vehicles at the IAA therefore reflect the Porsche product strategy. In future, the sports car manufacturer will focus on three drive technologies, namely highly emotive petrol engines, powerful plug-in hybrid powertrains and all-electric drives.

Sports car, redesigned with sustainability in mind: the Taycan

The first all-electric sports car, the Taycan, marks the beginning of a new era for Porsche as the company systematically expands its product range in the field of e-mobility. The four-door sports saloon is a unique package, offering typical Porsche performance, connectivity and full everyday usability. At the same time, ultra-modern production methods and the product features of the Taycan set new standards when it comes to sustainability and digitalisation. The first models in the new series are the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Porsche Taycan Turbo are now available to order.

New additions to the 911 family: the 911 Carrera now also with all-wheel drive

The 911 Carrera is extending the model range of the eighth generation as a Coupé and Cabriolet. The new standard 911 models can now also be ordered with all-wheel drive. Like the rear-wheel-drive 911 Carrera models, the 911 Carrera 4 Coupé and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet develop 283 kW (385 PS) at 6,500 rpm from the 3.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with biturbo charging.

With the PDK eight-speed dual clutch transmission, the 911 Carrera 4 Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, while the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet takes 4.4 seconds. The optional Sport Chrono package shortens the sprint by 0.2 seconds in each case. The top speed is 291 km/h for the all-wheel-drive Coupé and 289 km/h for the all-wheel-drive Cabriolet.

New plug-in hybrid models for Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé

In the Cayenne Coupé E-Hybrid, the combination of a 3.0-litre V6 engine and electric motor generates a system output of 340 kW (462 PS). The vehicle has a fully electric range of up to 43 kilometres with zero local emissions.

The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is also new. The most powerful member of the
Cayenne range with 500 kW (680 PS) is available as a Cayenne and Cayenne Coupé. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine in combination with an electric motor. The purely electric range of the Turbo S E-Hybrid is up to 40 kilometres.

Flagship model with more power and lower fuel consumption: the Macan Turbo

The new Porsche Macan Turbo claims the top spot in the category for sports cars in compact SUV format. The new six-cylinder biturbo engine delivers 324 kW (440 PS; combined fuel consumption 9.8 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 224 g/km). This represents ten percent more power output than its predecessor from 20 percent less displacement. The standard high-performance brakes are equally impressive when it comes to deceleration: the Macan Turbo is braked by the exclusive Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB).

Return to formula racing: the Porsche 99X Electric

After more than 30 years, Porsche is returning to formula racing. With the Porsche 99X Electric, the company is establishing a further milestone on its path to works entry in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship 2019/2020. The entry into Formula E and the associated reorganisation of motorsport commitments is derived from the Porsche Strategy 2025. In addition to purist GT road sports cars, all-electric sports cars have a fixed place in this strategy. Both will form part of the Porsche motorsport world in the future. Presence and success in motorsport with electrically powered race cars is an important part of the company’s “Mission E” strategy. The Porsche 99X Electric will also serve as a development platform for future all-electric series production cars.

12-day continuous programme on the Porsche brand at the company stand

Throughout the entire duration of the auto show, experts from the company’s various technical departments will be at the stand to present a stage programme on the Porsche brand and provide an insight into current topics for the first time. The new Porsche Taycan will play a central part in the lectures, interviews and discussions. Employees from the Development, Design and Marketing departments will explain the features of the first all-electric Porsche. Other main content areas include the topics of motorsport and Formula E, visionary future technologies as well as gaming and Esports racing.

Exhibition premiere of the new Taycan, IAA 2019, Porsche AG

Overview of Porsche’s IAA exhibition stand programme:

  • On Wednesday, 11 September at 1:30 pm, the joint Porsche and Sony press conference will take place, at which the two companies will announce their expanded strategic partnership.

  • On Wednesday, 18 September, Porsche will hold its “Motorsport Day”. The motor show audience can look forward to a presentation of Porsche’s Formula E car and an hour-long autograph session with race car drivers, among other things.

  • The “Next Visions Day” on Friday, 20 September, will focus on topics about the future. Experts will deal with urban transformation and new technologies in the automotive industry.

  • On the two “Esports Days” to be held on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 September, live races on simulators will take place in which professionals and amateurs alike can participate.

To accommodate the continuous programme, which takes place on the press, industry visitor and general public days, Porsche has set up an additional stage with seats at its stand for the first time.
