Proving that persistence pays off, a documentary over four years in the making has won best documentary feature’ at the 2024 International Motor Film Awards.
“Edith: Volcano Ascent”, a 50-minute documentary by independent filmmakers TangentVector chronicles the long and challenging journey of a small team aiming to drive to the top of the world’s highest volcano – Ojos del Salado, Chile – in a specially created Porsche 911, named Edith. As the documentary shows, the project was far from straightforward – with success coming at the final moment, after two failed attempts.
Accepting the award during a ceremony held at Alexandra Palace in London were J.F. Musial and Will Barber, of TangentVector, and videographer Niko Myyrä. Both Will and Niko were present on the mountain to witness firsthand the extraordinary and brutal highs and lows of attempting to break a record that had defeated many in the past.
“It’s wonderful to receive an award for a project that’s meant so much to all of us,” said J.F. Musial. “We set out to focus on the car and the record itself, but what emerged was something special, as much about the spirit and culture within the team and Porsche itself. This project was exactly what you see in the documentary – a small, passionate team working desperately hard at times, but also one of the most rewarding and proudest achievements we can all imagine. This award is for the whole team connected to the project.”
“Edith: Volcano Ascent” made its debut during Monterey Car Week in August. Discussions are ongoing for the documentary to be released via a streaming service, with more details to follow in due course.
