Angelique Kerber is the new queen of Wimbledon. She has beaten the American Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3 in the final to win the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament and celebrate the biggest success of her career.
After the Australian Open and the US Open, it is the Porsche Brand Ambassador’s third Grand Slam win. In her first appearance in the Wimbledon final two years ago in 2016, she succumbed to Serena Williams. This time around however, she secured the most coveted trophy in women’s tennis – the first German to do so since Steffi Graf in 1996.
“We along with every tennis fan are overjoyed by Angelique Kerber’s magnificent win. Our brand ambassador has fulfilled her sporting dream,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Nobody deserves the win more that her. The way in which she has fought her way back to the top after a very difficult season in 2017 when she suffered many setbacks and defeats has earned our greatest respect. By triumphing in Wimbledon, she has crowned an unbelievable comeback. The achievement is a spur not only for the talented juniors we support together with the German Tennis Association within the Porsche Talent Team Germany. Her strong will and unbelievable belief in herself make Angelique Kerber a role model for young people in not only sport.”
Her triumph at the tennis Mecca on the Church Road in London means that Angelique Kerber, the 2015 and 2016 winner of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, will rise up the world rankings to No. 4.
