Porsche gives the most powerful car developed from the 935 the nickname “Moby Dick”, after the great white whale. It is the first race car with watercooled cylinder heads. It finishes the 6 Hours of Silverstone race with a seven-lap lead. At Le Mans it achieves a speed of 366 km/h on the Hunaudières straight, thanks to its excellent aerodynamics, but misfiring and an oil leak cause it to fall back to eighth place. After two further races “Moby Dick” heads to the museum.
