The opening of the Macan plant in February was the third plant expansion for Porsche in Leipzig. Now the signs are again set for more growth. After the decision to relocate the body manufacturing and paint shops for the Panamera to Leipzig in 2016, Porsche is now expanding the production facilities to cater for full production. At present, the bodies-in-white are manufactured and painted at the Volkswagen plant in Hanover.

The Panamera will be the second model series to run through the complete production process in Leipzig. The location in Saxony was expanded from an assembly plant to a full production plant for the Macan, the newly developed compact SUV model series, with its own body and paint shops.

First step to recruit 200 highly qualified engineers

A second body shop will now be built for the Panamera production line at the Porsche plant in Saxony. Porsche Leipzig will also create hundreds of new jobs in the next two years.

One of the main challenges facing the expansion stage which has just started is to increase the works team. Personnel recruitment started in May 2014. By the middle of 2015, around 200 highly qualified engineering posts with appropriate professional and industrial experience will be created in the planning, body production, logistics, paint shop and quality departments. In addition Porsche will be searching for several hundred skilled production workers in the medium term.
