Located in the triangle between the towns of Spa, Stavelot and Malmedy, the circuit is respectfully nicknamed the “Ardennes Rollercoaster” due to its elevation changes and fast corner combinations. “Definitely a highlight of the season for me,” says Robert de Haan, who is looking forward to the traditional 7.004 kilometre circuit. The 18-year-old Dutchman from the German Proton Huber Competition team travels to Spa-Francorchamps as championship leader after his two wins at Imola. “The long straights guarantee exciting slipstream duels and offer good overtaking opportunities. And of course the Eau Rouge is one of the most challenging and coolest corners of the year.”
Robert de Haan knows the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps as well as his main rivals in the drivers' championship. His French team-mate Marvin Klein, second in the standings, won a race here last season in the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus scored a sixth and a seventh place during the German Carrera Cup’s last visit to Spa two years ago. “One of the most iconic and challenging circuits in the world,” enthuses the German. “The combination of fast corners, altitude changes and legendary passages like the Eau Rouge makes every lap an absolute experience.” Oeverhaus, who drives for Bonk Motorsport, is currently third in the standings.
Matheus Ferreira leads the Rookies’ standings ahead of the Spa weekend. The Brazilian, who races for Italian team Target, is also the best-placed driver from the Carrera Cup’s Talent Pool. Also, a member of Porsche Deutschland's junior development programme is Emely de Heus (ID Racing) from the Netherlands, the first female driver to join. Michael Essmann leads the ProAm classification. The German businessman drives a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Team75 Bernhard, the outfit of Porsche brand ambassador and Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard.
For the third and fourth races of the season, two guest drivers will join the 28 permanent entrants. One of them is Spaniard Mikel Azcona. Driving for the Hadeca Racing team, the former European and World Touring Car Cup winner has already proven his talent in Imola: In only his second race in the rear-wheel-drive Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the front-wheel-drive specialist finished in ninth place.
“The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is the longest of the eight tracks on this year's Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland calendar. The change between long straights and fast corners is a special challenge for the drivers. The unpredictable weather often adds to the excitement. I also expect a lot of spectators as we are racing as support to the FIA World Endurance Championship,” says Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Running on synthetic fue
With the aim of reducing CO₂ emissions in motorsport, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will use the synthetic fuel “DTM Pro Climate” on all eight race weekends of the 2025 season. This fuel is also being used for the first time by the ADAC in its DTM, ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany series.
The race track: Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium)
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps has hosted the Belgian Grand Prix on and off since 1925. After the most recent renovation in 2007, the track was reduced from its original length of almost 15 kilometres to around half of that. Today's 7.004 kilometre circuit features some world-famous corners, including the downhill/uphill combination Eau Rouge with a gradient of 15 per cent.
The German Carrera Cup last competed at Spa-Francorchamps in 2023. The two race wins were celebrated by Harry King (Allied-Racing) and Loek Hartog (Team GP Elite). Both the Briton and the Dutchman are no longer competing in the German one-make cup.
