For the third consecutive year, the national one-make cup runs the digital Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Deutschland. Sim racers can look forward to many new features: In addition to a modified racing procedure with events run on revered international circuits, and increased prize money totalling 25,000 Euros, the virtual series will also switch to the iRacing simulation platform for the first time. Identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup vehicles are fielded at all events. The season kicks off on 6 June at the digital version of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
“The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland represents top-class motor racing on both virtual and real racetracks. Our involvement in Esports has been hugely successful since the 2019 digital debut season. The various novelties add to the appeal of our online championship. I’m looking forward to an exciting season,” says Hurui Issak, Project Manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Eight events make up the 2021 calendar. In addition to the season-opening round at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, sim racers get a chance to pit themselves against each other on the two tradition-steeped Italian racetracks at Imola and Monza, as well as the Silverstone Circuit (Great Britain) and the Suzuka Circuit (Japan). With the Nürburgring and the Hockenheimring, two German racetracks are also on the programme. The venue of the finale on 17 October will be announced 48 hours prior to the event.
The new competition procedure guarantees even more suspense over the entire season: The grid spots for the races are allocated prior to each event. Competitors turn their flying laps in a six-day qualification phase. Out of all participants, 32 sim racers are able to qualify for the next race weekend based on their best lap time. In the two races, points can be earned towards the overall classification. The top 32 in the championship standings are eligible to contest the final event. There, two 30-minute races determine who will be crowned the new champion of the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Deutschland.
All events this season will be broadcast live on Porsche’s official Twitch account and on the YouTube channel of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. More information on the Esports series of the national one-make cup can be found on www.peccd.racespot.live.
