DETROIT. Like in 2025, The No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport Porsche 963 earned wins at Daytona and Sebring to open the season. A year ago, the sister No. 6 Porsche 963 scored victory at Laguna Seca. In 2026, it was a thrilling victory by the customer racing Porsche 963 of JDC-Miller MotorSports that won in Monterey, catapulted by factory driver Laurin Heinrich. That win boosted Heinrich to the top of the Driver Championship standings by 21 points over Cadillac’s Jack Aitken. PPM’s Felipe Nasr and Julien Andlauer are third, followed by teammates Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor.
For the first time since Daytona, the No. 6 and No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport cars will return to the traditional red, white and black Porsche 963 livery.
A factory Porsche 963 has been on the podium the past two seasons at Detroit, with a second-place finish in 2024 and a third-place finish last season.
Porsche’s biggest recent success at the downtown circuit has come with the Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD Pro class, which joins GTP once again in the dual-class race. Heinrich and 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup North America champion Sebastian Priaulx teamed to give AO Racing and “Rexy” the victory during the 2024 race.
Nick Tandy and Harry King will co-drive the AO Racing machine in this edition of the race. A win for Tandy on the 1.645-mile downtown Detroit street circuit would make him the first driver to win on every current IMSA race track.
The race will air in its entirety on NBC, beginning at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 30.
