The Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands will conclude its inaugural season with a triple-header championship battle at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, November 11 – 12. Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) and International Motorsports Association (IMSA) officials announced a third, 45-minute race will be added to both the championship weekend at the Braselton, Georgia-area race track as well as a third-round during Porsche SportsCar Together Festival at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), September 10 – 12. The approval of these races confirms the final schedule for the series which uses only the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car in the development of driver, team and partner talent on the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid North America.
The need to incorporate third races at the two established events arose when travel restrictions eliminated two scheduled Canadian race weekends. Third races at Indianapolis and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will fulfill the 16-race calendar for the first season of North America’s premier one-make championship.
Round 9 of the championship will take place during the Porsche SportsCar Together Festival on Saturday, September 11 with Rounds 10 and 11 as the headline events of the gathering of Porsche enthusiasts on Sunday, September 12. Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will play host to Rounds 14 and 15 on Thursday, November 11 and the season-finale on Friday, November 12. Three champions – one each for the Pro, Pro-Am and Pro-Am 991 classes – will be crowned November 12.
Brian Blocker, Series Manager, Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands.
“We were unfortunately unable to get across the border in order to compete in Canada this year. However, working closely with IMSA, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, we believe we have given our competitors not only a full-season but also a dramatic stage on which the championship will be decided. No one could ask for more dramatic or more iconic venues to crown the inaugural champions of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands than Road America, three races at Indy, two at VIRginia International Raceway and what I expect will be a no-holds-barred battle for the title in three rounds at our home track in Atlanta.”
