Larry ten Voorde wraps up the season with a double victory in Hockenheim

“What a great way to end the season! The Porsche Carrera Cup is very close, so to be honest I didn’t expect two such clear wins. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to claim this year’s title but I’m still proud of our performance,” said ten Voorde. Second place went to Bastian Buus (Denmark/Allied-Racing) ahead of Dylan Pereira (Luxembourg/IronForce Racing by Phoenix). At the final round, the titles in the ProAm and Rookie classes were also decided: Carlos Rivas (Luxembourg/Black Falcon) takes home the 2022 ProAm championship title, with Lorcan Hanafin (United Kingdom/Fach Auto Tech) crowned the new rookie champion. A total of 32 drivers tackled the final round of the season run as part of the ADAC GT Master support programme. 

Witnessed by 26,000 visitors, ten Voorde celebrated an outstanding weekend: on the tradition-steeped German racetrack, the 26-year-old scored pole position twice and his fourth and fifth win of the season. Spectators in the grandstands were treated to an action-packed race on Sunday with many wheel-to-wheel duels. At the start, ten Voorde kept his cool at the wheel of his 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, promptly pulled away from the pack and crossed the finish line in first place after 19 laps. Buus also drove a strong race, maintaining second place over the entire race distance. The 19-year-old from the one-make cup’s Talent Pool squad finished on the podium at eight of this season’s 16 races.

Pereira beat Porsche-Junior Laurin Heinrich (Germany/SSR Huber Racing) to third place. As the champion, Heinrich took the flag in fourth place on the 4.574-kilometre racetrack near Mannheim in Germany. “My pace was fast at the beginning but I wasn’t able to progress up the order at that time. All in all, it was a super successful season. In 14 of the 16 races I made it into the top five and managed to secure the title early,” said the 21-year-old. Guest driver Glenn van Parijs (ID Racing) achieved fifth place. Trailing the Belgian over the line were Morris Schuring (Netherlands/SSR Huber Racing), Lukas Ertl (Germany/CarTech Motorsport by Nigrin) and rookie Alexander Fach (Switzerland/Fach Auto Tech).

Thanks to his tenth class victory, Rivas earned himself the title in the ProAm class. The Luxembourger headed into the final race with six-points down on Jan-Erik Slooten (Germany/IronForce Racing by Phoenix) and with his win, claimed his fourth straight ProAm title. “It wasn’t until I crossed the finish line and saw my team cheering at the pit wall that I realised I was champion. The season had its ups and downs but the ending was fantastic,” said Rivas. Hanafin is the new rookie champion. Finishing fourth in his class was enough for the UK driver to win the title fight against Huub van Eijndhoven (GP Elite) from the Netherlands. “The decisive factor was that I earned points consistently over the course of the season. Winning the rookie title in front of all the fans and friends who travelled from England feels incredible,” said Hanafin.

“The two races in Hockenheim were a successful conclusion to an exciting season. Two title decisions went down to the wire at the final race and that added another layer of suspense. Congratulations to our new champions Laurin Heinrich, Carlos Rivas, Lorcan Hanafin and SSR Huber Racing. I’d also like to thank all of the teams. Their incredible commitment made a major contribution to the success of the series this season,” said Hurui Issak, Project Manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.

In the final standings of the 33rd Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season, champion Heinrich wrapped up the year with 297 points. The German not only recorded six victories and six further podium results but also turned the fastest race lap seven times. Ten Voorde (266 Punkte) was second in the overall rankings ahead of Pereira (240 points). In the ProAm class, Rivas clinched the title with 306 points. Hanafin took home the rookie class crown with 294 points. The team championship title of the 2022 season went to SSR Huber Racing (477 points). The winners will be presented with their trophies at the official award ceremony in Hamburg on 26 November.

Race 15

At the penultimate race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Larry ten Voorde achieved a lights-to-flag victory. At round 15 of the season on Saturday, the Dutchman was followed over the line on the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg by Bastian Buus and Porsche-Junior Laurin Heinrich. “I immediately found my rhythm and it was a fun race. At first, Bastian Buus was right on my bumper but I managed to shake him off early and pull away,” said ten Voorde (Netherlands/Team GP Elite). Two titles are up for grabs on Sunday: Jan-Erik Slooten (Germany/IronForce Racing by Phoenix) and Carlos Rivas (Luxembourg/Black Falcon) fight for the ProAm championship crown, with Lorcan Hanafin (United Kingdom/Fach Auto Tech) locked in a duel for the rookie title with Huub van Eijndhoven (Netherlands/GP Elite). 

From the beginning, ten Voorde was determined to claim his fourth win of the season. At the start, the polesitter defended his front position against Buus (Denmark/Allied-Racing) and eked out a comfortable lead at the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. After 19 laps, the Dutchman crossed the finish line first ahead of Buus. This victory was particularly significant for the two-time champion (2020 and 2021): it was the 50th time that ten Voorde climbed the podium in the German one-make cup – with the GP Elite driver winning 22 of them. For Buus, second place was his eighth top-three result this season. The Talent Pool driver received his trophy from Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. “The team worked on the vehicle well into the night. It’s great that we rewarded ourselves for that. I’m tackling Sunday’s race again from the second grid spot and the goal, of course, is to win,” said Buus.

Third place went to Heinrich (Germany/SSR Huber Racing)., who claimed an early championship crown at the previous race weekend. In the race on the 4.574-kilometre Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, the young German went head-to-head with Dylan Pereira (IronForce Racing by Phoenix). In the final lap, Heinrich swept past the Luxembourger to claim the third step of the podium. “At the start, I lost a position because of a collision. I then fought my way up the order. The duel with Dylan Pereira was great motor racing, which ended with a good result for me,” said Heinrich. Following Pereira over the line were Loek Hartog (Netherlands/Black Falcon) and the two rookie drivers Alexander Tauscher (Germany/Allied-Racing) and Hanafin. Van Eijndhoven achieved eighth place.

In the ProAm class, Rivas notched up his ninth win of the season, beating the Luxembourger Christof Langer (Germany/Fach Auto Tech) and Ahmad Alshehab (Kuwait/CarTech Motorsport by Nigrin). Thanks to this victory, Rivas is now just six points shy of the ProAm leader Slooten. Hanafin ranks first in the rookie class with a ten-point advantage over van Eijndhoven. There are still up to 25 points to be earned in the two classifications on Sunday. Heading into the 16th round, the order in the overall standings is Heinrich (284 points) followed by ten Voorde (241 points) and Pereira (224 points).

Fans were also treated to some action-packed virtual racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland on Saturday: In the Porsche Hospitality, the Talent Pool drivers pitted themselves against the Porsche Esports works drivers Mack Bakkum (Netherlands), Mitchell deJong (USA), Tommy Østgaard (Norway) and Joshua Rogers (Australia) from the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team. In mixed teams, two races were contested on the digital version of the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg.

The final round of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season gets underway on Sunday at 2:45 pm as part of the ADAC GT Masters support programme. The German free-TV channel NITRO broadcasts the race live from 2:15pm. The live stream on the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland YouTube and Facebook channels and in the Porsche Motorsport Hub starts at 2.30 pm.
