Atlanta. The origins of Rexy go back to 2022, when AO Racing was founded and the team put together a car in Oak Metallic green, a nod to the team’s preference for green cars. By the time the 2024 season rolled around, the 911 GT3 R version of Rexy had taken on a life of its own at the track and had become the inspiration for the new build through the Sonderwunsch program.
With a theme chosen, the specification process came down to details. Jeannette didn’t want to go too far over the top with his build but still wanted to pay tribute to the race car. That left him choosing the Viper Green exterior with the 911 GT3 RS in matte black on the doors. The interior is a leather/Race-Tex interior in black with Mamba Green stitching.
“From the moment we sat down with Gunnar and heard his vision, we were thrilled to be part of this project. As a Rexy fan myself, it was an especially exciting opportunity,” said Mason Dorin, Vehicle Personalization Manager, Porsche Cars North America. “Everyone involved put tremendous effort into making sure we got each detail right. The collaboration between Gunnar, our team at PCNA, and the skilled colleagues at Porsche Sonderwunsch is what ultimately brought this car to life. Congratulations to AO Racing on reaching this milestone and celebrating their success in such a meaningful way.”
The most extensively personalized area of the car is its interior. A unique dashboard trim panel bears the AO Racing logo and the track outlines for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Detroit and Indianapolis Motor Speedway – all 2024 wins. The door sill features the IMSA logo and “GTD Pro Champion 2024” as a reminder each time someone enters the 911 GT3 RS. The red in the IMSA logo lights up.
For Jeanette, one aspect of the custom options list stands out above the rest.
“The thing that I absolutely love the most, but was also the biggest headache, is the Rexy character embossed into the headrest,” Jeannette said. “The whole crew and team of people over there just absolutely knocked it out of the park. It looks fantastic."

As the race car went from a novelty to a fan favorite and eventually a championship winner, the excitement for the 911 GT3 RS tribute built.
“The team working on the car in Germany, once they understood what the project actually was and the fact that we were making a car that that was a tribute to a race car, everybody just got more invested,” Jeanette said. “At the end of it, they actually reached out to us and said, the guys in the workshop would like to sign the car, Is that okay? Everybody put their signature on the plastic panel underneath the hood. That to me was a really special touch that that shows the level of investment that the people at Exclusive Manufaktur have.”
The completed car made its first public appearance at the 2025 IMSA race at Road America – appropriate as Chicagoland-based AO Racing’s “home” racetrack. Today the team and drivers – Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler – currently sitting in a strong third position in the Championship with endurance races at Indianapolis and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta to go. AO Racing added wins at Sebring International Raceway and Laguna Seca to the tally this year to remain in contention for back-to-back championships.
The car will make its next appearance is in Michelin’s display at the 2025 Motul Petit Le Mans, where fans can see both the street car and the race car. It likely won’t spend much time at track days – there are race cars for that at AO Racing – but it won’t be unreasonable to see it at a Cars and Coffee or just driving around Chicagoland from time to time.
