Podium in Detroit keeps Porsche atop IMSA standings

A podium from the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 led the way for Porsche on the streets of Detroit, where a third-place finish from Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet helped to keep Porsche atop the IMSA WeatherTech Championship manufacturer’s championship after five races.

Detroit, Michigan. The No. 7 Porsche 963 of Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr led most of the 100-minute race on the 1.645-mile street course, dropping back to fourth with 14 minutes remaining, opening the door for the sister car’s podium.

The third-place finish ended a four-race winning streak to open the season. Nasr and Tandy remain the driver’s championship point leaders, while Porsche holds its lead in the manufacturer championship. Jaminet and Campbell are now just 70 points behind their teammates in the point battle.

In GTD Pro, the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R rebounded from early contact to finish fifth in class. Drivers Klaus Bachler and Laurin Heinrich remain the championship leaders in the class driver points.
