The tried-and-tested 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo boxer engine of the 911 Carrera has been extensively revamped. The lightweight unit builds up power quickly and in a linear fashion: 300 Nm of torque is produced at engine speeds as low as 1,500 rpm. As soon as the rev counter passes the 2,000 rpm mark, the maximum torque of 450 Nm is available.
The powertrain engineers optimised the charge-air system of the boxer engine. The charge-air cooler has been carried over from the previous-generation 911 Turbo models. In the new 911 Carrera, it is located centrally above the boxer engine. The turbochargers have also been carried over from the GTS models of the previous-generation 911. Their improved efficiency enabled an increase in power output by 7 kW (9 PS) to 290 kW (394 PS), while also reducing emissions. The new Porsche 911 Carrera accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with Sport Chrono Package) and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h. This marks an improvement of 0.1 seconds and 1 km/h, respectively. The 911 Carrera is equipped with an eight-speed PDK as standard.
