Virtual motorsport is growing fast, and Porsche’s eSports racing scene is one of the biggest in the industry. As well as the single-make Porsche Sports Supercup virtual racing championship and the Porsche SimRacing Trophy, teams have competed at a digital 24 Hours of Le Mans and celebrated the world of professional sim racing with the Porsche eSports Days at IAA 2019.

In Japan, the Porsche eSports Racing Japan series has been running alongside the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan and Porsche Sprint Challenge Japan since 2019 and now Porsche Japan is launching the Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific, together with Porsche Asia-Pacific, Porsche Korea and Porsche Taiwan. Sim racers from 11 markets will compete: Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

The races will be contested in Gran Turismo Sport, a game designed for the PlayStation®41, with the racers pitted against each other across an initial five qualifying rounds, each of which will comprise two competition slots. The five top-scoring entrants from each market will make it through to the next stage, with the ultimate winner receiving an all-expenses paid weekend in Tokyo, which will include a Porsche Experience Centre Tokyo visit and many more Porsche moments.

The qualifying races will be held at digital versions of the world’s most iconic circuits, including Le Mans, the Fuji Speedway, the Mount Panorama Circuit of the Bathurst 24 Hour race and the Goodwood Motor Circuit. And, because the cars being raced will range from the 919 Hybrid to the 962 C and the 356 A, those taking part will need a wide range of skills to progress through each step of the challenge.
