Born in 2007 in Ho Chi Minh City, British-Vietnamese racer Sawer Hoang Dat represents a talented young generation in Vietnam. The 18-year-old racing driver demonstrated his capabilities early on, with strong growth potential within the professional motorsport community, combining a calm yet decisive racing style with remarkable achievements.
After securing a domestic professional go-kart championship at the age of 13, Hoang Dat became the first Vietnamese driver to compete in the FIA International Karting Championship in Europe. He continued to build experience across international series, including a top-five overall finish in the 2023 F4 Indian Championship, participation in the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA), and claiming the 2025 F4 Southeast Asia Championship title at 17.
From Formula racing to GT cars
The year 2025 marked a pivotal turning point when Hoang Dat was selected for the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool 2026. This prestigious youth racing programme gathers promising young talents for mentorship and elite training under the guidance of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific.
From the 2026 season, Sawer Hoang Dat enters the professional GT segment, piloting the Porsche 911 Cup in the Pro class of the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia. This transition underscores his adaptability to the technical demands of high-performance production-based race cars, while reflecting Porsche Vietnam’s commitment to supporting emerging talent.
This new partnership between Sawer Hoang Dat and Porsche Vietnam highlights the young talent's transition from Formula racing to the professional GT sports car segment. It also represents a milestone in Porsche Vietnam's 20-year journey of consistently introducing the brand’s motorsport heritage through sports cars, customer experiences and the nurturing of a passionate sports car community in Vietnam.
Vietnamese presence on the PCCA circuit
Since 2003, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has established itself as the region’s premier one-make racing series, bringing together professional and amateur drivers to compete on challenging circuits across Asia. The championship represents Porsche’s motorsport tradition and competitive excellence, and is widely recognised as a platform for developing international racing careers. As of June 2026, the series has officially become the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia, marking a new collaboration with its latest title partner.
For the 2026 season, Sawer Hoang Dat competes in the latest 992.2-generation Porsche 911 Cup. The race car is equipped with a 4.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine and a six-speed sequential gearbox, delivering up to 382 kW (520 hp) and 470 Nm of torque, with a lightweight design of just 1,288 kg.
The No. 12 car representing Porsche Vietnam features a red and gold livery inspired by Vietnamese cultural motifs. Traditional patterns and the symbolic Chim Lac, derived from the Dong Son bronze drum, are integrated into the design, alongside a golden pig motif symbolising the driver’s birth year.
A partnership strengthening motorsport culture in Vietnam
Following the return of high-performance GT models earlier this year, the partnership between Porsche Vietnam and Sawer Hoang Dat marks a further milestone in celebrating the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport. It reinforces Porsche’s long-term commitment to developing sports car culture in Vietnam through high-performance models and customer experiences.
“For the past 75 years, motorsport has been more than just competition; it is at the core of Porsche identity, and the source of every technological breakthrough that eventually shapes our road-going sports cars,” said Mr. Andreas Klingler, General Director of Porsche Vietnam.
“Partnering with Sawer Hoang Dat in the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia 2026 reflects our commitment to connecting Porsche’s motorsport heritage with the local sports car community. We believe the combination of talented young drivers and the performance of our sports cars will strengthen Vietnam’s presence on the international stage and inspire the next generation to pursue their passion and shape the future of sports car culture in Vietnam,” Mr. Klingler continued.
Sawer Hoang Dat will continue his races in the Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia at the Bangsaen Street Circuit in Thailand from 3–5 July 2026, followed by Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from 21–23 August 2026.
