Tournament Director Markus Günthardt enjoyed a belated Christmas present when the four top players confirmed they would be appearing at the 47th edition of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. “It’s fantastic that four top world stars have already committed themselves to coming,” said the delighted Swiss together with his Operating Tournament Director, Anke Huber. “It’s a big compliment and a real sign of their confidence in the tournament.”
Iga Swiatek
The quartet set to appear at the WTA 500 event, a multiple award winner, in Stuttgart’s Porsche Arena has amassed a total of nine Grand Slam wins. “Porsche Friend” Iga Swiatek has won the most titles after triumphing at the French Open (2020, 2022, 2023) and the US Open (2022). She was also last year’s most successful player. After winning in Doha, Stuttgart, Paris, Warsaw and Beijing, the world No. 1 crowned her record season by claiming the WTA Finals title. Her start to the new season was also perfect as she won all her five singles matches at the United Cup, the prestigious team competition in the run-up to the Australian Open. Surfing a wave of success, the 2022 and 2023 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix winner is seeking new challenges. Winning a third consecutive title on her return to Stuttgart is one of them.
Angelique Kerber
Angelique Kerber won the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open and Wimbledon in 2018. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she was victorious in 2015 and 2016, will be the 35-year-old German’s first tournament on home soil since giving birth to her daughter Liana. “I’ve missed the tournament and the fabulous crowd in the Porsche Arena,” says the Porsche Brand Ambassador before continuing, “I’m looking all the more forward to competing there again.” Her comeback after maternity leave was crowned with success as she was a member of the German team that won the United Cup in Sydney.
Emma Raducanu
Winning the 2021 US Open made Emma Raducanu (21) a world star. After a long injury lay-off that included three surgical procedures, the Porsche Brand Ambassador enjoyed a successful comeback last week when winning her opening match at the ASB Classic in Auckland/New Zealand. Alongside her home tournament in Wimbledon, she is really looking forward to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix as “there’s after all a Porsche to be won there. It’s got the best prize out there on tour”.
Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka (25) is also taken by the main prize for the winner. The world No. 2 and reigning Australia Open champion was the Stuttgart runner-up in the past three years. When departing last year, she left everybody in no doubt about her intention to make a fourth attempt to secure the prestigious title: “I really want to win the car.”
A colourful programme of side events
In addition to world class tennis, one of the WTA’s most prestigious indoor tournaments for years now will serve up an incredible live atmosphere in Stuttgart’s so-called “Hallenduo” consisting of the Porsche Arena and the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is the flagship of Porsche’s worldwide involvement in women’s tennis.
