Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion

The 911 GT1 Strassenversion (English translation: ‘street version’) owes much to the technology in Porsche racing cars. Its creation was as much down to necessity as it was a chance to showcase Porsche design and engineering prowess: At the time, endurance race cars needed to have a homologated road version in order to compete.

The result was a car that looked like a race car for the road and boasted the performance to match. With just a handful made, they are a very rare spot indeed on the road. When one comes up for sale, they naturally create huge excitement among fans of Porsche and fast cars in general.

It took elements from the 911 – notably, early versions wore the familiar front end of the type 993-era model of the time, later ones the type 996 – as well as the fabled 962 race car. With many other elements derived from Porsche motorsport at the time, the 911 GT1 Strassenversion is a true hypercar.

959 Paris-Dakar

In 1986 a very special Porsche 959 sportscar took on one of the greatest challenges in motorsport, the Paris-Dakar Rally, and came out victorious. In the years that have passed since this landmark achievement, the feat of the three Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar cars that took part in this 14,000km off-road marathon have passed into Porsche motorsport folklore.

The Porsche Museum recently undertook a sympathetic restoration of one of those 959 Paris-Dakar cars.

917/30 Spyder in Vaillant livery

One of the last of the famous 917 race car ever produced, this 917/30 Spyder carries the distinctive livery of 1975 sponsor, the central heating manufacturer Vaillant. Carrying a wheelbase extended by 184mm over the conventional 917, the car was built in 1972.

The following year the car won on its debut, with Vic Elford driving, in the Interserie race in Hockenheim. The 917/30 model is famous for its exploits in IMSA racing in North America. US driver Mark Donohue set a closed-course speed record in the Sunoco 917/30 at Talladega Speedway by averaging 355.848km/h.

Mission: Future Heritage

Porsche not only preserves history, but also uses the past as a drive for the future. In 2025, Porsche Heritage and Museum dedicates itself more than ever to its ‘Mission: Future Heritage’ and shows how the past, present and future are inextricably linked.

Porsche is constantly transforming itself without losing its identity. Heritage is therefore not a retrospective, but a strong foundation for what distinguishes the brand: authenticity, design, performance and craftsmanship. The ‘Mission: Future Heritage’ not only preserves this heritage, but uses it as fuel for what is to come. Because the future of Porsche begins with its history.

As part of this campaign linking Porsche’s past to its future, a Taycan Turbo GT will be displayed at Icons of Porsche, also in the colourful Vaillant livery, alongside the 917/30 Spyder.

As is often typical of Porsche heritage projects, the reinterpretation of the iconic livery’s application to the Taycan Turbo GT was performed by the original designer that penned the Valliant livery 50 years ago.
