Lebanon | Filmed on the rooftop of Porsche Centre Lebanon’s Medawar Showroom, four episodes of “The Porsche Chronicle” have been commissioned to show the passion, dedication and the ability of Porsche Centre Lebanon to retore, maintain and care for classic and historic Porsches, being one of just a handful of chosen Porsche Classic partners worldwide.
Episode 1: the F Series
Social media influencer MCR, Ghady Rahi introduces the 911 range with the F Series which was launched in 1963. While covering the highlights of the F Series including the desirable Carrera 2.7, the four-cylinder 912 and explaining the difference between a 911 T and a 911 L, he wraps it up with a very special version of the 911 L owned by Porsche Centre Lebanon and affectionately known as the Bahamamama. This particular 911 L competed in the Mille Miglia UAE in 2022 and was signed by the legendary Porsche driver, Jacky Ickx.
Episode 2: the G Series
In this episode of “The Porsche Chronicles”, social media influencer MCR Ghady Rahi delves into the hugely popular G Series 911 which ran for 16 years and resulted in 198,000 examples produced, making it the longest running model to wear the 911 badge.
Emerging safety laws and the 911’s popularity in the United States played a large part in the success and development of the G Series as a pioneer in passive safety with three-point seat belts for the occupants and rubber accordions mounted on the front and rear bumpers to satisfy Californian laws. These compressed by up to 50mm in order to absorb crash impacts of up to 8kph.
The G Series also introduced Turbo technology and with it, the famous 911 Turbo nameplate in 1974 along with the first Cabrio in 1982.
Episode 3: The 964
In the third episode of “The Porsche Chronicles,” Lebanese automotive influencer MCR Ghady Rahi goes over the rarest generation of the 911 and one which gained cult status in the mid-90’s through the movie, “Bad Boys” starring Will Smith and a svelte black 964 Turbo that became a poster car for a generation of teenagers.
The 964 ran from 1988 to 1994 which covered the 30th Anniversary of the 911 and with that came a range of bespoke possibilities that paved the way for today’s endless customisation options through Exclusive Manufaktur.
For the 30th Anniversary, MCR Ghady shows off two pristine examples at Porsche Centre Lebanon which only came in Viola Metallic and Polar Silver Metallic.
The 964 debuted all-wheel drive traction along with an extensive list of modern features such as power steering, dual front airbags, ABS brakes and a four-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
Episode 4: The 993
For the final episode of “The Porsche Chronicles,” presented by Lebanese influencer MCR Ghady Rahi, he shows us arguably the most beautiful iteration of the 911 shape, at least in his eyes and no doubt many others as well, the 993.
Launched in 1994, the 993 marked the birth of a completely different 911 with a new 3.6-litre engine making it the last air-cooled Porsche. It also became wider and more comfortable thanks to a new, multi-link rear suspension borrowed from the discontinued 989 project.
The Turbo received the perfect farewell gift of the air-cooled generation with an extra turbocharger that gave the 3.6-litre, bi-turbo, flat six, 406hp hidden under a distinctively curvaceous rear spoiler. The 993 model smoothed out the lines from the 964 to give it a signature of its own which has resulted in every version of the 993 range being arguably the most desirable of the overall 911 fleet.
