IMSA SportsCar Championship: At the 24 Hours of Daytona, Porsche factory drivers Pilet, Makowiecki and Werner secured second place with the 911 RSR for the Porsche GT Team factory squad. The Porsche 911 GT3 R won the GTD class.
Daytona: strong performance of the new Porsche 911 RSR during the night. Both race cars fielded by the Porsche GT Team fought for the lead in steady rain and at times even led the strongly represented GTLM field.
The Porsche Team has used this weekend’s official test, “The Roar before the Rolex 24”, to setup the new 911 RSR for its race debut at the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
The 2016 motorsport season ended successfully for Porsche at the 12-hour race on the Sepang International Circuit: The second place has gone to Earl Bamber, Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy. Their teammates have clinched fifth place at the final round.
To conclude the 2016 motor racing season, Porsche fields two 911 GT3 R from position one and three at the twelve-hour race in Sepang, the season finale of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
After winning the manufacturers’ world championship in Shanghai, Porsche has now also defended the drivers’ world championship at the finale of the FIA WEC in Bahrain.
The sports car brand with the innovative Le Mans Prototype Porsche 919 Hybrid has secured the manufacturers’ title in the FIA World Endurance Championship one race before the season’s finale.
