António Félix da Costa wins at Porsche’s home race in Berlin

Race 10

Despite a long stint in the lead and thus less slipstream advantage, the energy in his Porsche 99X Electric was still enough for victory. TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team’s second driver, Pascal Wehrlein, narrowly missed out on a double podium result for Porsche in fourth place. Thanks to the points earned for Jake Dennis’ pole position in the Andretti customer car, Porsche swept into the lead of the manufacturers’ standings.

Defending champion Dennis reversed the previous day’s qualifying result and claimed pole position. He wrapped up Sunday’s race in fifth place behind Wehrlein and harvested further championship points. Driving the second Andretti Porsche, Norman Nato crossed the finish line in 19th place after an incident.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “That was a spectacular race in front of local fans with a great result for Porsche. António brought home a strong first victory for the second time this season. The second race in Berlin was also fiercely contested, which makes his effort even more deserving of respect. Pascal lost ground after a few scrapes with the wall caused by another competitor but scored important points for fourth place. The support from some of the Weissach development team and the many Porsche employees was terrific. This victory gives us the final push for the last six races of the season. Today we’re relishing the moment – the team deserves it. Tomorrow after the rookie test, preparations will begin again for the double-header in Shanghai in two weeks.”
 
António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13): “What a great day for Porsche and me too, of course. Winning the home race in Berlin is great – especially with so many Porsche employees supporting us here as spectators. We didn't exactly have the best start to the season, but we never stopped believing in ourselves. We continued to work hard and were finally rewarded for it. I’m delighted and excited for the races in Shanghai. What better motivation could there be for the rest of the season.”
 
Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): “Congratulations to António! I’m as thrilled about his victory as he is. We worked exceptionally well together today. It’s a shame it wasn’t enough for two podium spots. Too much happened for that. I was pushed into the wall a few times and my car suffered quite a bit as a result. From that point of view, I’m pleased that I managed to earn all-important points.”

Porsche in Formula E

Porsche contests its fifth Formula E season in 2023/2024. In addition to the works-run TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, the American customer outfit Andretti Formula E competes with the Porsche 99X Electric. The concept of the innovative electric racing car was developed at the net CO₂-neutral Weissach facility. With its commitment to the world championship, Porsche underlines its commitment to take a leading role among traditional automobile manufacturers in the areas of electrification, sustainability and technology. In Formula E, the brand gains valuable insights for its electric series-production sports cars.

Race 9

On the grounds of the historic Tempelhof Airport, both Porsche 99X Electric race cars fielded by the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team took turns to lead the field early on. However, in the final phase of the 46-lap race, they were no longer able to remain in the fight for victory. Heading into the race as the World Championship leader, Wehrlein ultimately took the flag in fifth place. His team-mate da Costa crossed the finish line directly behind in sixth.

The Andretti Formula E customer team finished outside the points. Starting from P20 on the grid, Jake Dennis battled his way up the order to fourth place in his Porsche 99X Electric, but retired shortly before the finish. Round 10 of the season will get underway on Sunday at 3:04 pm.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “That was an exceptionally thrilling first race. We earned important points with 5th and 6th place. As far as the results are concerned, it’s still not what we’d envisaged. We lost the battle for victory or a podium spot in the last two or three laps. That’s disappointing. But overall, today was a good day. Tomorrow we’ll attempt to do better and take back the lead in the drivers’ championship. A huge thank you to our team, who worked overnight to put Pascal’s car back on the track, ready to race after an incident in practice.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): “What an eventful race with a lot of contact. You have to position yourself well to get through unscathed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We were at the front for a long stretch, but we didn’t have the pace today to put the leaders under pressure all the way to the flag. Now we’re doing our best to do better tomorrow.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13): I’m not entirely satisfied. That was a wild race. Especially towards the end, when a podium was definitely still within reach, but a few critical moments just didn’t end well for me. Tomorrow is a new day with a new opportunity.”
