Porsche celebrates nine championship titles at the finale
Porsche left its lasting mark on the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season at the season finale at Road Atlanta. The sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart won a total of nine titles on Saturday (October 12th) at the so-called Petit Le Mans.
At the wheel of the Porsche 963 with starting number 7, Felipe Nasr from Brazil and Dane Cameron from the USA secured the drivers' title ahead of their brand colleagues Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Mathieu Jaminet (France). The Porsche Penske Motorsport works team won the team championship and Porsche triumphed in the manufacturers' championship.
The two Porsche 963 from the works team finshed the ten-hour race at Road Atlanta in positions two and three. In the GTD Pro class, the Porsche 911 GT3 R from AO Racing with drivers Laurin Heinrich from Germany, Julien Andlauer from France and Michael Christensen from Denmark achieved eleventh place. This was enough to win the manufacturers' championship in the top GT category. The former Porsche Junior Heinrich crowned his debut season in the IMSA championship with victory in the GTD Pro drivers' championship.
Porsche Penske Motorsport has clinched its second consecutive victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Last year’s winner Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, and Laurens Vanthoor steered the #7 Porsche 963 to the top step of the podium.
Porsche is looking to further expand its impressive record at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Following last year’s 19th overall victory, the goal for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener is clear: another triumph.
