Although having to contend with competition from the large 3.6-liter Aston Martins and the 3-liter V12 Ferrari works entries, drivers Masten Gregory and Al Holbert in the 2.0-liter Porsche Type 718 Spyder RS 61 managed to secure an outstandingly good fifth place in the overall rankings. Edgar Barth and Hans Herrmann in a similar car with 1.6-liter engine took 7th place and Herbert Linge and Ben Pon were tenth in a Porsche Type 356 1600 GS Carrera GTL Abarth Coupe. Of the 55 cars that started this year’s race, only 22 finished.

Baron Fritz Huschke von Hanstein (3.1.1911 - 5.3.1996) joined the Porsche company in 1952 and was not only Press Department Manager and Competition Manager but also a successful driver of factory-entered cars, photographer and cameraman.
The car is an Austro-Daimler ”Sascha”.
