The first fully digital Sound Night ‘Next Level’: live, free and no registration required

Today the first ever concert of high-powered engines will take place online, with the livestreaming of the first fully digital Porsche Sound Night ‘Next Level’. From 17:00 (CEST), the Porsche Museum will start the engines of 20 carefully chosen racing cars and series production vehicles from the company’s collection.

The interactive live event is free of charge and open to everyone, with no need for prior registration. The event will be broadcast around the globe in German, English and French via the website www.soundnacht.porsche.de. The Sound Night can also be followed live via the official Porsche channels on YouTube and LinkedIn. The Porsche Heritage and Museum department has pulled together a thrilling online programme that will, for the first time, take place at both the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen and the Weissach Development Centre, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

While presenter Anna Fleischhauer will host from the Museum together with various four-wheeled sound artists and their contemporary witnesses, across in Weissach, Matthias Malmedie and Mark Webber will celebrate some of the racing cars that have written successful chapters in Porsche’s motorsport history.

Famous icons and spine-tingling sound

Many of the cars on the line-up are making their Sound Night debut. The Porsche 962 C, for example, will celebrate its premiere at this year's aural spectacle. Hans-Joachim Stuck won the Sprint championship with this racing car in 1986, and at the same time put the new and ground-breaking Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission through its paces. Stuck – better known as ‘Strietzel’ – will also look back on the year 1987, when he competed in all five Supercup races at the wheel of the 962 C with the starting number 17 and a further-developed PDK. He ended that season by winning the championship title.

Fans around the world can also look forward to the two-time world rally champion Walter Röhrl being on stage. He will present the 924 Carrera GTS Rally, with which he won four overall victories in the German Rally Championship 40 years ago. To mark that anniversary of the 1981 rally season, the Porsche Heritage and Museum department surprised Röhrl at the beginning of this year with the newly restored gold and black 924 ‘Monnet’ that he rallied with great success.

Alexander Klein, Head of Vehicle Management and Heritage Experience, will present the 911 (901 No. 57). The red coupé, built in October 1964, is one of the first production versions of the sports car, which originally had the type designation 901. Half a century later, the Porsche Museum bought back the rare model – which had been discovered by chance – and returned the oldest 911 in the company’s collection to its original condition. The 907 KH, which was produced in the racing department of Werk 1 in 1967 as the successor to the Porsche 910 for endurance races, will also make its debut at the Sound Night, with former hillclimb specialist Rudi Lins doing the honours.

But it is not only racing and road cars from the past that will carry the typical Porsche sound out into homes all over the world: current highlights from the motorsport world will also make an appearance. Presence and success in motorsport with electrically powered racing cars is an important part of the company’s Mission E strategy and so, Formula E driver Pascal Wehrlein will drive the Porsche 99X Electric on the running-in and test track at Weissach. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team 2021 has been fielding the 99X Electric in its second Formula E season.

During the Sound Night, viewers can submit questions, some of which will be passed on for the stars on stage to answer. Those watching will also get the opportunity to vote interactively on estimation and knowledge questions.

The Porsche Museum will also be offering its visitors another highlight on Sunday (19 September) when, on the museum forecourt, some of the Sound Night vehicles will be displayed. More information can be found on the museum’s homepage at www.porsche.com/Museum and www.porsche.com.
