Porsche Cars Australia Brand Affiliate Kate Reid, Founder of Lune Croissanterie, had the chance to ride shotgun in a 911 GT2 RS Clubsport at the recent 2020 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, one of just 200 produced, was set to appear on-track each day at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, as one of the cars in this year’s Speed Comparison.
Driven by Alex Davison, 2004 Carrera Cup Australia champion, former Porsche factory driver and current Porsche Track Experience instructor, the race car ran alongside a road car and Minardi F1 car in the handicapped one lap dash.
With the cancellation of the event on Friday morning, it meant that the speed comparison only ran once on the Thursday with the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport first to take the chequered flag.
Kate was lucky to ride in the passenger seat with Alex Davison.
“Before we took off Alex casually informed me that this car has 200 horsepower more than a 911 GT3 Carrera Cup Car,” said Kate.
“I was so excited to get this opportunity of a passenger lap at Albert Park in a Porsche, my dad is giving me the silent treatment, I think he may be a little jealous!”
A former Formula 1 aerodynamicist, Kate was lost for words after the experience: “You know I am never lost for words, but now, I don’t know what to say. I’m struggling to express my excitement and that says it all.”
“It was a very special experience. It will take days to wipe the smile off my face. This will stay with me for a very long time. Thank you to everyone at Porsche.”
With a lap time of 1:24,88 minutes, the 911 GT2 RS is the quickest production car ever to lap the iconic track.
