Between 2004 and 2007, Neel Jani was frequently seen behind the wheel of Formula 1 cars. He drove the cars during testing, simulator sessions and demonstration drives on behalf of both Red Bull Racing and its sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso.
As a racing driver, he competed in the US-based Champ Car and A1GP series. In 2008, Jani was a guest driver in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. In 2009, the Swiss competed at Le Mans for the first time and has raced there every year since. In 2011, he won the Le Mans Series with the Rebellion Racing team, and one year later Jani just missed out on a Le Mans podium when he finished fourth overall. In 2012 and 2013, he was victorious in the “Petit Le Mans” at the Road Atlanta raceway. He has been a Porsche works driver since June 2013. In the debut season of the Porsche 919 in 2014, Jani achieved its first three pole positions and took the maiden victory in Brazil, together with Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb. In 2016, he won at Le Mans and became the WEC Driver's World Champion. In the 2019/2020 season, Swiss-born Jani is competing in Formula E for the first time with Porsche.
