Simona De Silvestro developed a passion for motor racing at an early age. Later on, she passed through many different series in professional motor sports. The Swiss-born driver began her career in karting before moving to America at the age of 18.
De Silvestro competed in Formula BMW USA in 2006, finishing in fourth place. This was followed by racing in the Atlantic Championship and the IndyCar Series. In 2010, she was chosen as the best rookie in the Indy 500, and in 2013 she was on the podium, finishing second in Houston. After this, in 2014, she made a short excursion into Formula 1 as an “affiliated driver” in the then Sauber F1 Team. For the past three years, the Swiss driver has participated in the Australian Supercar Championship. De Silvestro has also gained experience in Formula E recently. She drove in the last two races in the debut 2014/15 season before being signed as a regular driver by Andretti for the 2015/16 season. In the latest 2018/19 Formula E season, she supported the Venturi Formula E as a test driver. In her role as test and development driver for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team, De Silvestro is the first female Porsche works driver.
